Soturi Ihmisiä

The Soturi Ihmisiä are the fierce and wild citizens of Tailte Fiaine who focus on Cosán na'Hoiliúna and thus bodily refinement, tame Primordial Beasts to serve as their partners, and are renowned for their martial prowess. Due to millennia of tribal warfare and a constant struggle for survival against ferocious beasts their appearance is large and coarse, usually at least a head larger than other human races with thick, dark skin and muscles of steel. Don't let appearances fool you though, Soturi Ihmisiä may look primitive in comparison to the rest of Ihmisen Keh'to but their connection to nature is the highest of all humans, and are often called Rangers or Druids in the Na'Comhrialtas and Sraitheanna na'Léaráide instead of Barbarians like the Draíocht and Aireagóir refer to them.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Soturi Ihmisiä are known for three things above all else, their powerful body refinement, their unmatched martial prowess, and their fierce tamed Primordial Beasts - all part of Cosán na'Hoiliúna.

Shared customary codes and values

Soturi Ihmisiä put strength highest among their values - without the strength to protect yourself and get food for the tribe everyone starves. Likewise honesty and honor are highly prioritized, its hard to trust your back to someone who could abandon you to danger or purposefully plot against you.

Average technological level

The Soturi Ihmisiä are druids of great renown, and the strange organic technology their Gu Arts create can rival any gadget of Tír Tionscail or spell ofFásach Draíocht. Furthermore the Druids can bend nature, including the Primordial Beasts, to their will.

Common Etiquette rules

Other humans find Soturi Ihmisiä callous and rude, with no respect for personal space or face. This is because they're frank and outspoken, driven by passion, and used to living in a deadly environment where a lone hunter can easily become prey for an enormous Primordial Beast.

Common Dress code

Soturi Ihmisiä manner of dress match their tribal lifestyles, opting to don the hides and furs of the many Primordial Beasts which inhabit their wilderness. Due to their body refinement skills, their own flesh is as protective than any armor and as such they prefer mobility and freedom. Temperature doesn't affect a northerner as much due to the power of their bodies either, nor do they have much sense of modesty, leading both men and women to dress scantily in comparison to the other four nations.

Art & Architecture

Vocal songs and fiery dances are standard fare, accompanied by fine food and drink. Otherwise, art is simple scrimshaw, colorful beads, and of course music and dance. Architecture, however, is sorely lacking within Tailte Fiaine at first sight because most Soturi Ihmisiä don't build their structures but rather guide the flora around them to grow into living fanciful tree-top cities woven from the branches of nature.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Quick to fight, quick to mate, and loath to give someone a second chance Soturi Ihmisiä seek practicality in nearly everything and are quick to make friends but bear long grudges once wronged.

Coming of Age Rites

The Northerners have two major rites, three in times of war, which mark them above their peers. The first hunt marks one as an adult, though only if successful. Likewise reaching initial success in Cosán na'Hoiliúna is required to have any say within a tribe. Finally, in times of war, successfully killing an enemy who are often even more dangerous than the Primordial Beasts to Soturi Ihmisiä can mark them a leader among the tribe.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Perhaps the largest reason they were deemed "Barbarians" isn't for their primitive tribal structure but their funerary rites. Soturi Ihmisiä are cannibals and wont waste the meat of a tribesman when even the easiest caught prey within Tailte Fiaine can just as easily become the hunter instead. Neither do they glorify nor venerate the dead, the only songs sung in their praises are for great heroes of their people.

Common Taboos

Soturi Ihmisiä despise dishonesty and plotting, as such they rarely get along with the other humans of Ihmisen Keh'to. Likewise cowardice can get one banished from the tribe, left to fend for themselves within The Primordial Wilderness - which is usually a death sentence.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

For Soturi Ihmisiä men and women need to be powerful warriors and this shows in their ideals of beauty, preferring toned and athletic forms over weak and "pretty" forms like most of Ihmisen Keh'to, much less the starved looking Cinn Thógtha. It's not all about muscle, however, and women with large rears, big eyes, and full lips are vastly preferred to more masculine ones while women in Comhairle na'Seanóirí prefer men who look like the warriors they are. Neither is it all about appearance, though... the Soturi Ihmisiä practice their notorious Gu Arts even on themselves, indulging in a kind of eugenics that greatly values powerful warriors, tamers, hunters, and druids.

Gender Ideals

Though gender stereotypes are less restrictive within the tribal Soturi Ihmisiä due to their harsh living conditions, though men are expected to hunt and war for their tribe while women tend to focus on foraging and medicine. One shouldn't think that a village full of lone women while the men are out hunting is vulnerable though, they're just as capable as fighters, druids, and tamers.

Courtship Ideals

Unlike the rest of "civilized" Ihmisen Keh'to Soturi Ihmisiä balk at the restrictions set against individuals and their relations, viewing the freedom to pursue whomever they wish to be taken away for some meaningless political reason.

Relationship Ideals

The Northerners are a passionate lot and this naturally includes their views on relationships. Both men and women can have harems of lovers, it just depends on whose stronger, smarter, or more connected to nature - either way, these harems never get so large that attention isn't paid attention to the paramours lest their lovers leave in pursuit of better mates.

Major organizations

Soturi Ihmisiä are divided into many tribes, both nomadic and sedentary, that control Tailte Fiaine only loosely - though they have banded together whenever the other nations have tried to invade what they thought was a castle of sand and forced the outsiders out through slaughter. Since then the Comhairle na'Seanóirí has acted as the governing body of the north, though their authority only manifests itself when it comes to the survival of the Soturi Ihmisiä and their traditions.
