Report: Treatment for Mist Contamination

Author: Anne-Line DecroixDate: 360 days post-Mist — Confidentiality: Public
Objective
Describe the procedures for treating individuals contaminated by Mist.
  Background
Mist contamination is the highest danger posed by the Mist. After exposure with a high level of Mist, it accumulate in our brain and, in some cases, can cause people to turn against humanity and attack us outright or collaborate with Mist monsters to let them through our defences. We need to stay vigilant for any signs that any of us is at risk of contamination.

Circumstances

Circumstances when applicable:
  • When someone is exposed to a higher exposure level than usual during a confrontation with Mist monsters or after a Mist anomaly.
  • When someone is suffer an injury from Mist Monsters.
  • When someone is showing instability time after a confrontation with Mist Monsters.

  •

    Signs of contamination:
  • Suddenly (or not so suddenly) attacking people.
  • Acting in ways that are detrimental to the survival of Lille's Camp, such as undermining our defences or collaborating with Mist monsters - political opposition shall not be taken as a sign of contamination.
  • Changed speech patterns - but not to be confused with contusion.
  • Improved or new Mist abilities - although this can occur after Mist exposure without a contamination having taken place.
  • Detection of a contamination by Senator Anne-Line Decroix.

  • Procedure

    In case of potential contamination:
  • Signalisation to the army
  • Separation of the potential contaminated individual from those known to be free of contamination
  • Containment circles traced around each of the potential contaminated individual
  • Tight observation for any contamination signs.
  • The containment does not have a fixed length of time and is removed only after Consul Anne-Line Decroix's has confirmed that no contamination has taken place.

  •

In case of observed contamination signs:
  • Provide adequate food, water, and first aid kit for the potentially contaminated individual without entering yourself the containment circle.
  • Speak to them to encourage them to fight against the contamination.
  • Maintain a positive mindset so that your belief will reinforce their Mist abilities and strength to fight back against the contamination.
  • The containment does not have a fixed length of time and is removed only after Consul Anne-Line Decroix's approval.
  • In case Consul Anne-Line Decroix confirm that the individual has succumb to the contamination, they will have to stay under confinement for the rest of their life, but everything will be made to keep them confortable and give them access to entertainment.

  • What not to do

    General rules:
  • Do not use accusatory language - we are all "victims" of contamination, not "suspects".
  • Do not contain several individuals potentially contaminated together - if only one of them is actually contaminated, this would condemn the others.
  • Do not removed the containment if Consul Anne-Line Decroix has not examined the potentially contaminated individuals, even if you have observed them "for a long time" and have not seen any time, even if if they have a "very important job to do", even if you think "they would never hurt you".
  • No matter how well they hide the signs, if Consul Anne-Line Decroix say that an individual has succumbed to the contamination, they are not a classic prisoner and should not be treated like it. Do not fall for their trick to get you to release them or to put yourself in danger by getting inside the confinement circles.

  •

Why we do not kill the contaminated
Lille does not practice the death penalty, and if we can confined the contaminated without endangering ourselves we will do so. Knowing the danger posed by Mist monsters, this might seem like a reckless decision, however most contaminated managed to hide the signs from their loved ones who would consequently riot if they were to be killed. And even with visible signs, it is incredible hurtful for all of us to have to kill our co-citizens, especially when the Mist has already taken so many of us.

    Conclusion

We do not currently have any way to reverse contamination or to stop it when signs first appear. Please collaborate with our scientists and doctors and get yourself examined now so that we can investigate potential differences in case you unfortunately become contaminated.
Until a cure is found, all of us need to stay vigilent, look for signs of contamination, and respect confinement procedures no matter the identity of the potentially contaminated individuals. Our lives and the survival of humanity depend on it.
