The first family of the New Government and of
Lille's Camp.
Anne-Line is of course our
benevolent leader, but the rest of the family all also occupy most of the top posts, if only because they were the first to volunteer before everyone else learned to trust us. It's therefore essential for our survival to decide what to do with them.
The Decroix
The Decroix are
Anne-Line's family. They're an old middle class family from
Lille, with all of them having been doctors, layers and engineers for several generations. They always emphasize to their children the importance of studying and of letting their curiosity runs free, as demonstrated by the kind of individual they produce.
Two sides of the family have managed to survive First Exposure to the
Mist: The "A-side" (Anne-Line, her parents and her brother) and the "F-side" (Anne-Line's paternal aunt and her two daughters). Other survivors include Anne-Line's maternal family, the Vasseurs (her aunt and cousin) and the Gaultiers (one of her cousin on the paternal side and her husband).
Anne-Line
Character: Anne-Line is an extremely skilled engineer and scientist who was just started to establish her own research lab when the First Exposure to the
Mist happened. She's clever and intuitive, but also very adaptable and open-minded, as shown by her having lived in several countries.
Leadership style: What's best is that she's not a wannabe tyran wanting to dominate us all but is ready to take and sollicite advice from people she trust like
me and
Pierre.
But Anne-Line is also not a pushover and she knows that she's our best chance of surviving the Mist and that she needs to impose her decisions and judgments on us or we're all going to die.
Loyalty: As if all of this wasn't enough, she has the kind of loyalty that leads someone to go in the middle of Eldritch monsters camp to grab your baby brother, threw him over your shoulder and crawl together all the way back home, all that while sporting a hole in your heart...
Anne-Line — Absolutely perfect
The A-side—Aristide, Aline and Augustin
Type of family: Anne-Line's parents are
Aristide Decroix and
Aline Vasseur-Decroix. Both have a very successful and loving marriage and are incredibly supportive of Anne-Line and her brother,
Augustin.. They're ready to make all sacrifices for them and know when to provide advice and when to step back to let them take their own decisions and make their own mistakes.
Background and jobs: Aristide and Aline met through the hospital where Aline and Aristide's sister, Marie-Françoise, work. Aristide was upper management at a tech company and now manages
Lille's Camp for the
Triumvirate. Aline's part of the medicine team. Augustin is a mechanical engineer and works with Anne-Line in developping way to fight back against the Mist.
Miscellaneous note: The Decroix are a bit weird with names: when Augustin married a woman whose first name also started with an A, they both decided to name their children with A names. His sister Marie-Françoise found this fun and wanted to do the same with the letter F.
Aristide, Aline, and Augustin — Loyalty: Incredibly High — Competence: High — Work Ethics: High
The F-side—Marie-Françoise, Florie-Laure and Faustine
Background: Marie-Françoise's husband died in a car accident when their daughters,
Florie-Laure and
Faustine were young. Her brother and his wife helped her raise them and so both side of the family are close.
Relationship: Marie-Françoise is very loyal to her daughter, and Florie-Laure admires her a lot and joined her in the medical field. Faustine is the rebel one who went into marketing, but she's calmed down now that she's older. Florie-Laure is happily married but Faustine had just broken up when the First Exposure happened.
Jobs: Marie-Françoise currently leads the medicine team of Lille's Camp and Florie-Laure works with her. Faustine's currently helping Aristide manage Lille's Camp.
Marie-Françoise and Faustine — Loyalty: High — Competence: High — Work Ethics: Moderate
The Gaultiers
The Gaultiers are an old Nordist family with a strong military tradition.
Hippolyte and his wife,
Florie-Laure (
Anne-Line Decroix's cousin) are the only ones to have survived First Exposure.
Hippolyte and Florie-Laure
Background and jobs: They both met pre-Mist: Hippolyte was already a military officer and was hurt during a terrorist attack in Lille. Florie-Laure was the emergency physician who took care of him.
Loyalty: Both are in love and very loyal to their family. They will follow Anne-Line's guidance no matter what and are at not risk of undermining us. They are also hard worker who will not take advantage of their link to her and weaken
Lille's Camp.
Hippolyte and Florie-Laure — Loyalty: High — Competence: High — Work Ethics: High
The Vasseurs
The Vasseurs are a working class family from the North of France.
Aline Vasseur-Decroix and
Christine Vasseur are the only ones of five siblings and a large extended family to have survive First Exposure. They both have children, Anne-Line and Augustin for Aline, and
Jean for Christine.
Aline and Christine
Background and character: Both had to struggle a lot while growing up and to work very hard to manage to go to university and to succeed in their studies, Aline in medicine and Christine in teaching. Once they had a successful career and founded a family, both did their best to keep their children humble and emphasise to them the importance of studying.
Jobs: Christine currently takes care of the surviving children in Lille's Camp, especially the orphan ones, while Aline is part of the medicine team.
Loyalty: Christine's husband became violent with their child, Jean, a few years after he was born, and she divorced him to protect Jean. Aline and Christine are both very loyal to their family and hard working. However, Christine is highly likely to put Jean first before Anne-Line in a quarrel.
Christine — Loyalty: Questionable — Competence: Moderate— Work Ethics: High
Jean
Character and loyalty: Jean is very envious of his cousins, and especially of Anne-Line who is the same age as him. He resents that Aline and Aristide have a successful and loving marriage, that they are wealthier and never had to struggle, and that Anne-Line managed to get into a better engineering school than him.
While he's now happy to take advantage of Anne-Line's status as a Consul, he's also angry that she's ruling over him, and even more that she's his direct commander in the Engineering Battalion. this is a disaster waiting to happen...
Job and usefulness: Jean is nevertheless very competent a his job as a civil engineering and good at developing method to use
Mist abilities to improve our constructions and their speed. He will therefore be crucial during reconstruction and cannot be done away quietly.
Jean — Loyalty: Low — Competence: High — Work Ethics: Moderate
Conclusion
This is a very important family, with all members having manifested powerful
Mist abilities and already having strong skills and competences pre-Mist. Them occupying the top-role in
Lille's Camp is not unjustified nepotism and is not likely to lead to their downfall once the situation stabilise.
An alliance with their family and especially Anne-Line would only be advantageous...
