We traveled through the rift and it actually worked!! We are back at Chalcedon and looks like we need to be ready for action. Security has been escalated and that seems to be tied to replicants that are droids with organic bodies. We get off the ship, grab some basic gear, meet up with Spook and update him on facts of life, and head to Zaye's house to settle down.
While relaxing with your wife, Zaye brings up a message she stumbled over where Spook is working some "specialized lease to own X-Wing" using "point system" or something... to HICKS. "What kind of point system? is Spook still worried about Hick's piloting skills? And I thought I made it clear this was to be an outright purchase so we didn't have to handle repairs on the X-wing going forward," I respond. Zaye checks the records, showing you what she finds. Looks like Spook is still concerned about Hick's piloting skills. It might be she's planning on just being caution, but Zaye points out certain patterns to this that she's seen when setting up a starfighter race type contest. I suggest she check to see if there is a site already set up for bets on the outcome. What she finds is that it is supposed to happen in Needle Forest - not a place where we had fun the last time we were there - and the X-Wing was attacked by creatures. I sigh heavily and say I will talk to Spook.
SPOOOK!! Spook spins around. "Captain?" "Front and center. I do understand that you have been given some leeway due to length of service and a solid skill set, but a direct order is still a direct order." ... droid sigh .... "Yes, Captain" "You were to sell the X-wing for a fair amount to Hicks first IF and only IF there was no way to attach it to our new ship." Spook responds with "I was just planning ahead!" "Now if Hicks was not interested you were free to investigate other options, but a race through Needle forest AND a lease to own option was NOT anywhere in the conversation."
"It was for a prove out test drive if Hicks wanted to kick the tires!" says Spook. "Time to understand that even if I am distracted, there are three other people in the family that will be able to check in with you. You are my first and oldest friend and I have no desire to change that relationship, but we need to be clear who is the Captain! I have already made clear that Hicks is a good pilot and he has already piloted the X-wing and knows where the tires are and how good they are!" She lets go of another long droid sigh ..."Yes, Captain"
"Glad we understand each other and are now on the same page. Now why don't you tell me about your trip back here in the X-Wing. Any adventures?" "It was calm. Two pirate raids but we slipped by them. It's been sooooooooo boring..."Spook replies. "Any of our medusa friends in the area?" "Oh yeah - a whole squad! There are four pirate clans in system causing a problem." I get a bit excited and wonder if maybe we can schedule a cookout so I can introduce my new family.
Then we get a summons to speak with the Chancellor and we go into a meeting with her. She asks us to go on a mission to find and rescue Jem Vandross - again. However, this time there is a better chance since Rico is with him. While we are talking about the proposal, Kit Kat walks over to the map display and starts playing around. He finds a regular route between a moon in the system and Spacer's Tears. Then Jenkins, one of the clone trooopers, walks in and says that he has transimission from Rico - Spacer's Tears. Looks like the universe is sending me back to pilot in one of the most dangerous, most beautiful, and most challenging place to pilot I have ever been to.
