Reskin

Environmentally consumed...

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

There are two distinct variants of Reskin: the Elemental Reskin and the Mod Reskin. Both varieties are relatively featureless humanoids with unorthodox patterns applied to them. It is the manner that these patterns were applied, the subject matter of the patterns and their ultimate fate that separates the two variants.

ELEMENTAL RESKIN

Elemental Reskin were adorned with environmental textures by a computational accident thus resulting in their Glitch. The environmental textures that they received can vary greatly including grass, rock, dirt and even brick. They take on the qualities on whatever element they were adorned with in both strengths and weaknesses (a Reskin adorned with rock will have the hardiness of rock, a Reskin adorned with the grass will be able to burn like grass). Elemental Reskin cannot speak and can only make sounds attributed to the element that adorns them like crunching gravel for rock or swaying leaves for grass. As Elemental Reskin age they become more and more like the element they are adorned with; where once you could easily define the features of their face just simply recolored the older the get the more and more it is just a mass that is vaguely humanoid.

MOD RESKIN

Many Reskin are part Mod and have comical images adorning their skin like toppings of pizza or a famous actor's face. These Reskin are often not eager to have this association be made though because while they were technically altered by Gamers they did not receive the powerful attributes that make Mod the feared pariahs of Nipik culture. Mod Reskin can speak unlike the Elemental Reskin. As Mod Reskin age the details of the comical images that they were adorned with become more and more defined and can accumulate other strange attributes depending on what it depicts (for example an image of someone's face can start to speak).

CULTURE

Since Elemental Reskin cannot speak they have a rich gestural language built from emote animations they harvested from various Gamer Realms. This language is called /Speak (pronounced "slash speak") and often requires at least three Reskin working together to communicate quickly with non Reskin participants since the emote animations can take awhile to fully play. When speaking with each other Reskin will often only activate the beginning of an emote animation before moving onto the next since the are all so familiar with the emotes of their language that is all they need. From an observer's perspective this looks twitchy and strange. Since Mod Reskin can speak it is common for them to accompany Elemental Reskin tribes and translate to other Nipik if encountered. Many Reskin Tribes prefer not associate with the larger Nipik societies and form their own settlements in remote areas of the Oob. There are a few tribes who utilize their textures and fondness for movement to form great traveling caravans of troupers who perform plays and music. When an Elemental Reskin grows very old they eventually stop moving and become a static humanoid shape of the element that adorned them. This is known as "Coming to Rest" (though there are subtilties to this translation that do not make it beyond /Speak) and is not interpreted as a death by most Reskin but rather a joining with the universe to be celebrated. Mod Reskin suffer a far cruelly fate at this juncture prompting even euthanasia as a merciful alternative. When a Mod Reskin goes through this process they go mad, wholly consumed with whatever comical element they were adorned with. This state is called the Rekt and is a living death of compulsive often violent behavior.

INSPIRATION

Applying a different texture to something is often the most easily executed mod to apply to a game since it usually only requires replacing a file being referenced by the game's programming. This has lead to many strange retextures by gamers in games with amusing results.
