Flop

In need of restraint...

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Flop are Nipik who have had one of their bodies connecting physics joints break (usually the neck) so that appendage just flops around or even detaches in a bizarre noodle like fashion. The appendage with the broken joint will often not stay with the body as they move so if they aren't using a brace the Flop must physically grab and carry this appendage to keep it with them. Most Flop use large mechanical braces to keep their appendages from wandering off that come in varying sizes and with an array of features. Brace features can include thrusters that allow Flop to pilot their appendage remotely allowing them to use their appendage from great distances or extend and retract in a predetermined manner.

CULTURE

Flop take great pride in their mechanical braces and regard them as a mark of societal success (similar to how many humans regard their cars). A Flop without a brace is often considered by their peers as an embarrassing failure, though it is common practice to do this judging from afar. It depends on the taste of that particular Flop and/or on the tastes of their neighboring Flop what constitutes a better brace but some of the attributes used to make this judgement include expense of materials, cosmetic decadence or multitude of features. To fund this obsessive one up manship most Flop enter reckless occupations chasing "easy" wealth.

INSPIRATION

The Flop were inspired by glitches that exist in many games where the characters joints break or react strangely to the input they are given. This can be seen in glitch from Fallout New Vegas where "Dr Mitchell" had his head roll upside down or in Mass Effect Andromeda where sometimes characters would glitch out during cutscenes.
