(Current) Manor Lord
(Previous) Court Wizard, Grand Artificer
Maître Na'Daoine
Beautiful but cold, with an otherworldly magnetism that draws the gaze of the beholder Maître is a well traveled, erudite polymath in the
Capital of
Ihmisen Keh'to who has studied the four paths to perfection only to begin merging them in ways others have only begin to dream of.
Maître's Dao Philosophy:
Magic can be combined with Science and the Body combined with Mind and those derivatives can combine to create a rudimentary Cultivation of the Dao. Pure Yin does not lead to birth and pure Yang does not allow for growth, therefor why seek to birth Yin from extreme Yang or Yang from extreme Yin? All things contain the Dao, all Dao lead to the same goal. It is not the most powerful which is best, nor is it the fastest or most intricate, but the most suitable to one's own Dao. Artifact forging and alchemy, body refinement and talisman arts, martial techniques and array formations, divine abilities and spells, puppet constructs and and poisonous Gu are all aspects of Cultivation. Seek not the extremities, all paths contain the Dao - take from these paths what insights further your Dao and cast off that which hinders your Dao.
Physical Description
Unfortunately for Maître, they were cursed with an extremely androgynous appearance due to their
Natural Physiques causing them to have a unique
Enchanting Physique that attracts members from all sides - making them see Maître as an attractive member of undetermined race and gender the beholder finds appealing. Oddly, this physique doesn't take into account Maître's height and build which is lithe and small but very athletic, hinting at both feminine curves and masculine power.
Maître is small and petite but well built and lithe, hinting curves and an hourglass figure but with great physical power despite their small size. When clothed normally, and not affected by their physique, Maître appears an devastating beauty but when lain bare they give off an air of a handsome hero.
With pheonix hazel eyes, sharp eyebrows, a small nose on an heart-shaped face framed by hair so dark its raven with a pronounced thrice pronged window's peak Maître's appearance is striking and beautiful with a statuesque look to it. Beautiful, but feminine and masculine at the same time... a mystery to the beholder.
Beyond their otherworldly beauty, Maitre has no identifying features not already mentioned... yet.
Graceful to the point walking seems to float along the ground and agile to the point that one never knows which direction or speed they'll move next Maître is ambidextrous with an inhuman demeanor. Eyes constantly roaming, with a fierce gaze that pierces through the veil to see dirty little secrets such as what that speck of dust on your sleeve is made of and where it comes from. All in all Maître is... otherworldly, with a magnetism that demands your attention but a demeanor that makes one shudder in horror.
Northern Refinement and physical training, eastern magic, southern spiritualism, western technology, and capital intrigue are all critical abilities of Maître, such abilities blend together in a way that make her renowned such as magitek. Most of these are secondary, however, to the ability to transmute substances, changing their characteristics such as pliability, hardness, etc. The combination of that transmutation ability and the melting pot of paths within the capital lead to Maître finding the Dao of a cultivator.
What Maître wears depends on the situation, but consists of three layers. In normal life a leather duster functions as a lab-coat is donned while an apron full of gadgets and tools, thick gloves, protective goggles, and even a re-breather styled gas-mask is worn in the lab or during general experiments. The coat isn't as simple as it appears though and is lined in armor plating, with the entire thing made of the finest materials from around the world refined through the ways
Cosán na'Hoiliúna but enchanted in the ways of
Cosán na'Draíochta. This makes Maître always well protected, even in battle - but in truly dangerous situations Maître puts on something with a bit more... kick, the
Project Automaton a living suit of mechanical armor with a host of its own features. Despite being a court official, and later the lord themselves, Maître has a notable lack of finery in the form of jewelry or other accessories.
Three pieces of specialized equipment stands out most when speaking of Maître, a full utility apron full of various gadgets and tools required for their experiments as well as a few that have been refined enough that Maître is happy enough with them to use in various situations is the first.
Second is Maître's rifle-like contraption of a weapon. This rife is thin and long enough to function as a pole-arm in battle due to the khopesh-like bayonet at the end but doesn't fire bullets but rather darts, like short crossbow bolt, through pneumatic pressure (or when a kick is really needed, enhanced through rail-gun style mechanics).
Lastly is
Project Automaton, a mechanical woman that follows Maître at all times whom later becomes living power armor.
Mental characteristics
Maître was born a commoner in Na'Comhrialtas of An'Croílár. Raised by mercenaries of the Mercenary Guild Maître followed suit, but had a fascination for learning which led to them to join the Artisan's Guild as well as the Mage's Guild. Most of Maître's life was spent creating some new prototype or technique within some workshop or laboratory before going out with mercenaries to test them in the field. The inventions of Maître led to great renown within Na'Comhrialtas and they were recruited to be an adviser of a lord.
It didn't take long for the Lord and Maître to recognize a kindred spirit and after years of achievement earned the unquestioning trust as well as being appointed by the Court Wizard as well as the Grand Artificer of the Manor, granting an authority second only to the Lord himself. Unfortunately, this peace didn't last and after the Lord was caught up in a plot Maître made a gambit for a pyrrhic victory - though the battle was won, Maître's only true friend was killed... appointing Maître (who had long had enough authority within An'Croílár to become a Lord in their own right) to become the new Lord of the Manor, with one request - to marry the Lord's only living family, his daughter, both to protect her and retain the heritage left behind for her. Feeling guilty despite the victory, Maître had no choice but to accept.
Due to Maître's Spiritual Root granting them a strange
Enchanting Physique that makes others view her based on whatever they find attractive Maître has long since become not reliant on gender (or even race) as an identity, but rather Maître's own achievements and interests and answers to both male and female appellations.
While technically heterosexual, and with the future marriage with the previous Lord's daughter Maître has little in the way of sexual or romantic desire at the moment - seeking instead their own Conairí and redemption for having caused the life of the previous Lord through miscalculation.
Most of Maître's education came from personal experience and experimentation while being a mercenary for the
Mercenary Guild and eventually joining both the
Artisan's Guild and
Mage's Guild. Maître made great attainments in all Na'Conairí with the survival and combat experience of a mercenary and has several Projects which follow a similar path to
Cosán Na'Comhleá, but instead of just seeking to combine a couple of Conairí as others before her did Maître sought a perfect fusion of all of them - thus leading down another, new path:
Cosán Na'Tālamēla.
Most of Maître's teen years was spent in the
Mercenary Guild though later in their teen years and early adult life replaced the majority of income with the selling of various works created to the
Merchant's Guild with only supplemental income being made while field testing the various Projects on mercenary missions for the
Mercenary Guild. The renown gained for being one of
Na'Comhrialtas rare geniuses with talent, and achievement, in all Na'Conairí led to the recruitment of the previous Lord of
Maître's Manor first as an adviser then as both Court Wizard and Grand Artificer before finally becoming the new Lord themselves.
Maître didn't have many great achievements in early life, just some minor fame for being skilled in all Na'Conairí, though living through being a mercenary as a teen is a feat in its own right. Though greater renown was made after becoming a member of the
Artisan's Guild and
Mage's Guild due to their innovative new products, qualifying to even be a minor Lord, Maître instead chose to serve a greater Lord in
Maître's Manor before eventually inheriting the position with the former Lord's death and the betrothment of his daughter to Maître.
Maître's greatest success is also Maître's greatest failure, the manner in which they became the Lord of
Maître's Manor. Though technically a victory, the cost was far too great and cost Maître the greatest friend they had in life to this point, the former Lord.
Perhaps caused by the Pyrrhic victory which led to Maître becoming Lord of
Maître's Manor they are without a doubt sociopathic. Like most cultivators, Maître goes after whatever benefits them (or their clan) the most rather than what is "right and good" and gaining such ends through what ever means necessary without regard to most, if any, moral compass.
Being born and raised in the melting pot of
Ihmisen Keh'to,
An'Croílár, Maître remains ever curious and open minded with great determination and discipline. In addition, Maître has a penchant for thinking outside the norm which set him down an entirely new and self-created Conairí which is based in
Cosán na'Tālamēla but seeks to perfectly fuse the others into one rather than just seeking a synergistic approach.
Morality is definitely not a concern for Maître, as their philosophy entirely revolves around taking everything available and meshing them together in a way that improves it as a whole, a perfect union. By means fair or foul Maître seeks their own form of perfection, his Dao.
Maître has very few taboos, often employing a "the ends justifies the means" style in their life. In fact, even more insidious actions which can be all too common in
Ma'ailma (like wanton slaughter or rape) aren't performed merely because Maître has no desire to partake rather than any repulsive reaction. All that said, Maître is all too aware of how one's public persona can affect them and does the more morally grey experiments and actions in the dark - like any good schemer in
Na'Comhrialtas.
Personality Characteristics
Maître doesn't have a traditional motivation, but is fueled by a desire to learn and improve - especially after coming across their own Conairí ... after which point the process consists of perfecting one's Dao. If a traditional motivation must be sought, it is the desire for redemption for a miscalculation which led to the death of the former Lord as well as revenge on those who made Maître have to plan such a Pyrrhic victory in the first place.
Maître is a polymath, a renaissance man of da'Vinci proportions. As such, Maître is a savant in just about every aspect of creation and study - good with music, art, invention, and easily enlightened... but interpersonal relationships are without a doubt Maître's biggest ineptitude. It's not even that Maître is particularly inept, as the intrigue and plots hatched show an understanding of human nature, but they're nonetheless "on the outside looking in".
Maître lives for getting lost in experimenting and improving one project or another and has a fondness for anything rare or novel. Music and art are a staple hobby as well, oft done when Maître is working through a particularly difficult problem. Perhaps the most odd, but simple, enjoyment Maître holds is sitting outside by a fire with a hot drink (usually coffee) on cold mornings. Most things, however are neutral to Maître, with the only real dislike being the incompetent and willingly ignorant.
Patient while working, open minded, dedicated, acute attention to detail, and an encyclopedic knowledge.
Arrogant, impatient with fools and incompetents, willing to do anything "For Science!" or to meet a goal.
Oft plays music or paints when working through difficult problems, hums and sings while going about business (including more dangerous mercenary work).
Maître is extremely hygienic, but rarely has time for things such as baths - instead opting for spells to get rid of filth. Everything has to be cleaned and sanitized during procedures and experiments to prevent possible foreign contaminants and unforeseen and unwanted (potentially disastrous) results.
Social
None, the only child of now dead mercenaries... though betrothed to the former Lord's daughter.
Strictly apathetic, neither worshiping nor denying deities - though willing to perform rituals to any being which would help the cause at the moment.
Maître is cold and calculating, not to mention a bit standoffish, but due to some strange magnetism is able to easily catch the attention of others (even when not desiring to). However, depending on the scenario Maître can either demand respect with a natural command or make others view them as utterly insane due to the obsessive behavior (especially regarding some latest experiment).
Cold and distant most times, while heated and animated when relating to interests.
Closest Maître has to a pet is Project Android which focuses on creating a new animal companion/familiar for her
Conairí through a very strict breeding program aided by magic to create the ultimate biological weapon and protector. As for hobbies; art, music, and meditation help Maître relax between sessions of experimentation.
Maître speaks, on the rare occasion that they do, in the same manner as the language of Na'Daoine they created,
Laulu - Sung in poetic verse along a musical score, with the voice of many.
Though not fabulously wealthy at first, Maître was nonetheless affluent which is quite a feat considering the origin as a mercenary. Between his own inventions and improvements upon already made inventions, services rendered, as well as the stipend of an official Maître was able to mobilize a decent amount of wealth - and with permission of the lord could even mobilize an army of mercenaries. Now that Maître is Lord of
Maître's Manor anything within the (admittedly small) territory belonging to the Manor, be it man or resource, is at their command so long as the required tribute is paid to
Na'Comhrialtas.
