Hecata

The Clan of Death, Necromancers, Graverobbers, Lazarenes, The Family.

The Hecata are one of the fourteen vampiric clans. A collection of necromantic bloodlines bound by a cult-like family mentality and a hereditary web that puts the phrase "sweet home Alabama" to shame. They are all united by a shared pursuit of a single subject: Death. They are devoted students of the afterlife, wraiths and ressurections of the dead.

Another thing that makes them unique in vampire society is their independence. Though individual members of the clan may be loyal to sects such as the Camarilla, Anarchs or the Sabbat. The clan as a whole is loyal first-and-foremost to itself, and no larger sect.

History

Founded by the Antediluvian Cappedocious. Clan Hecata began as the Cappadocians. A cult of necromancers with a belief and mythology founded in Abrahamic beliefs. During their long existence they created many bloodlines.

Sometime in the 11th century the usurper Augustus Giovanni, childer of Cappadocious himself Diablerized the Antediluvian. Reshaping and rebranding the clan into the Giovanni. A clan combining merchantile interests and mobster tactics with necromantic occultism.

In the early to mid 2010's, clan Giovanni barely more than a bloodline after the rumoured Final Death of Augustus Giovanni, the many bloodlines felt Beckoned towards one another. Gathered together in an event known as the Family Dinner. The clan once again reformed and rebranded themselves. Now the Hecata. A cult-like family of interconnected bloodlines working together as a (seemingly) united clan.

Culture

Embrace

The Hecata tends towards Embracing mortals within their family, or outsiders useful to the family. They have a prefference to those whom can withstand death. Morgue tenders, medical professionals, priests with extensive funeral experience, killers, necromancers (actual ones as well as enthusiastic pretenders), and so on.
They Embrace those willing to do anything for the family. Family is everything and should always come first. As a result of this mentality, spontaneous Embraces are especially frowned upon by the clan. As they preffer a more ritualistic approach of watching and grooming their potential childer before assessing their worthiness.

Clan Disciplines

Auspex

Slow, meticolous and ever curious. The Hecata masters Auspex so they can learn the unseen and unheard truths before they act.

Fortitude

As durable as the corpses they study. You cannot kill what is already dead.

Oblivion

A family of necromancers. Oblivion allows them to see, communicate with and control the dead and energies of death.

A Fourth Discipline*

As the Hecata is a family of varied bloodlines, sometimes they count a fourth discipline as in-clan. By purchasing a four-dot merit exclusive to clan Hecata. The discipline, depending on the bloodline are:
  • Dominate, Giovanni and Nagaraja.
  • Obfuscate, Samedi.
  • Potence, Lamiae.

*Optional, depending on Storyteller's approval.

Bane

Painful Kiss

Hecata may only take harmful drinks from mortals which result in blood loss, pain wreaking avoc on their bodies as the decay of death that is so familiar to the clan seeps into the victim. Unwilling mortals that are able to escape will make the attempt, even those who are convinced or willing must succeed in a Stamina + Resolve test against Difficulty 2 + Bane Severity in order to not recoil. Vampires who are willingly bit must make a Frenzy test against Difficulty 3 to avoid terror Frenzy.

Compulsion

Morbidity

The vampire must move something from life to death or vice versa, any action not taken to end or resurrect something suffers a two-dice penalty. The subject does not have to be a living thing and can instead be an object or more abstract such as ideas or conversation points. This Compulsion lasts until they manage to kill or return something to life.
