General Rules of Conduct

3.0 In-Game Server Guidelines

3.1 General Conduct

    • All Players must always be in a clan. Even if they are Solo.
    • Mechanical PvP is not available to resolve IC conflict. Use our RPR (Roleplay Redux) sheets instead.
    • Do not exploit or abuse any loopholes or bugs. Report them so they can be handled appropriately.
    • Do not engage in a "Play to Win" mentality. Using other players solely for mechanical gain is never allowed.

3.2 Roleplay Guidelines

3.2.1 Consensual Play

The purpose of this server is to engage in collaborative storytelling. At any point that you wish to engage with another player, you are encouraged to reach out OOC to make sure your intentions are okay with the other party.

3.2.2 Common Courtesy

When characters encounter each other, it is encouraged that each gives at least one emote to acknowledge the other party. This could be as simple as nodding your head. Allow the other party time to respond if they wish to.
During roleplay interactions, characters may turn hostile at any time for any reason. However, both parties must exchange at least one full emote without hostile actions before any hostile emote can be made.
We are a FULL IC SERVER. If you are logged on and within the world, you are expected to be IC and remain IC. Make use of the spawn area or private home for any and all OOC.

3.2.3 Act Names

The command “/act” can be used to change the name that your character shows up as when you type. Players are free to use this command in order to assist with hiding their identity or to add flavor to the story they are telling, so long as the /act name is registered in their characters act names by whitelist.
You may have up to 3 act names, which may not change unless you submit a biosculpt ticket in which case you can change your name and all three act names. Names must not duplicate to currently active player names, or their act names.
Act names must stay lore-friendly and be descriptors or Aliases of your character. Ex. A gangoon by the name of “Gregory" might whitelist their act name as “Maelstrom MadMan”.
Changing your Act Name while engaged in an Active Scene is strictly forbidden except for the express reason of revealing your true name and swapping to that for the remainder of the scene.

3.2.4 Social Rolls

Social Rolls involve using RPR (Roleplay Redux) skills in non-combat or narratively-led scenarios. The implementation of Social Rolls is entirely up to the players and characters within each given scene.
While you can go through an entire scene without using them, if another player requests a roll (e.g., to determine if your character is lying), provide an opportunity for that roll. Use the /do command or /channel to facilitate this interaction.
Large bonuses to skills does NOT serve as a "win button" superseding roleplay. For example, rolling high on an intimidation roll does not mean they must comply, they may merely react fearfully or yield more ground than they otherwise would. Collaborate with the other player to tell the story you want to see.

3.2.5 ToT and Limits

Only ToT items you actually own via RPR rune. No custom or unlisted cyberware, armor, weapons, quickhacks, or FBC concepts.
Must represent all installed cyberware via ToT. Example: you can’t appear cyberware-free while obviously modded, or wear gorilla arms ToT without owning the rune.
  Accessory limit: 100.
No horns, tails, wings, non-human ears, etc. unless:
    • Netspace avatar
    • Exotic package purchased + verified by staff
    • Staff-approved events (costumes/parties)

  Totting vehicles:
    • Only in spawn/private areas (bedroom/apartment).
    • Outside narration events: limited to motorcycles & small, non-combat 1–2 seaters.
    • City: drive only on asphalt roads/parking lots.
    • Badlands: off-roading allowed.
    • Clan bases: no vehicles (breaks immersion).
    • Warehouses: may display 1 ToT vehicle if there’s a built-in parking spot directly outside (no ToT parking lots). Vehicle must fit space, not block paths, and have no visible weapons.

Exterior ToT decor: limited to 3 wallpaper. No accessories on outer walls.
Decoration limits (per clan): 150 placeable decorations per clan; +50 for each active donator (up to 3 donators). Maximum total = 300.
Breaking these rules = 1 day ban (first offense).

3.2.6 Eddies/Enny/Eurobucks

Do not represent currency you do not have in RP. Do not exaggerate your wealth. You don't have to be specific to the dollar but keep your RP relative to your mechanical income. Ex. An Exec claiming they have millions eddies to their name but only having a few hundred eurobucks in their inventory.

3.2.7 Ownership of Public Spaces

No player should OOCly 'claim', 'own', enact/enforce any ownership rules, or build in any space on the map outside of their rented personal apartment, or the interior of their on-map rented space such as a warehouse or rented business location.
Ex. A gangoon claiming to own or take over one of the bar's while attempting to throw others out of the public space. Ex. A player building up in a spot they found on the map they think looked nice for a home.
Warehouse and on-map location owners are allowed 3 wallpaper or decal 'tags' to identify/decorate their space upon its exterior but vehicles, security NPCs and additional props that extend beyond the walls are not allowed.

Back It Up Mentality

Characters are encouraged to put their money where their mouth is in terms of what they claim or what they try to do. It is against the rules to prevent entry into public spaces OOC. However, characters may claim control IC.
Example: The police wish to control a crime scene. They may attempt to do so, but other characters have every right to disregard them or outright overpower them. It is up to the NCPD to enforce themselves.

3.2.8 Flavor Actions

In a scene, often players will want to take actions that enhance the flavor of their characters. So long as this action does not affect any characters in the scene, actions such as these are generally permitted.
If the action you wish to take would affect a character in the scene, you must ensure express consent from that character to allow such an effect to resolve. To fail to do so is powergaming.

3.2.9 Fail RP

Fail RP occurs when mechanical aspects of the game are prioritized over narrative aspects of the story or when IC common sense is disregarded for mechanical benefit.
You do not need to actively engage with everything which happens around you, but ignoring another character’s PvP Intent would be a prime example of Fail RP.
Powergaming, or other attempts to gain an advantage in an RP scenario would also constitute Fail RP.

3.2.10 Theft RP

Do not squander other player’s hard earned time. Currency, Influence, and other RPR enabled items are sacred. Do not take them from another player without their express consent to do so.

3.2.11 No Value for Life (NVL)

NVL occurs when a player roleplays their character as not appreciating the real threat of death in a roleplay scene (eg. A solo strolling into a room full of gangoons and acting aggressively).
NVL is a roleplay guideline to maintain realism and a sense of danger in dangerous situations. If staff determines a character is under NVL rulings, they may confirm a Player Kill even if it would not normally be permitted.

3.2.12 Antagonistic Parties

PvP rules:
To avoid one large clan or group from dominating the map, we do not allow aggressors to force unreasonable numbers on defenders in PvP. To accomplish this, there are some hardline rules on how many players can participate in a PvP encounter depending on the situation.

    • PvP between groups of 3 or less is not restricted. In other words, two people can attack three people, or vice versa, or any combination desired.
    • Groups of 4 or larger must ensure that, when initiating PvP, they are either fighting equal or larger numbers.
    • For example, a group of four aggressors cannot initiate PvP on a group of three defenders, unless they downsize to a group of three. They do, however, can fight another group of four, or a group of five, or even larger.
    • Defenders may defend with however many allies they happen to have present at the time of combat intent being activated. Defenders may not summon additional allies that were not included in the initial combat intent. Otherwise, it is up to the aggressors to initiate PvP in a reasonable time and place for their own goals.
  • Examples:
      • A group of five players attacks two players. They must downsize into a ‘3v2’ encounter to continue.
      • A group of two players attacks ten players. This can be a ‘2v10’.
      • A group of three players attacks one player. This can be a '3v1'.
      • A group of five players attacks five players. This can be a '5v5'.
      • A group of five players attacks seven players. This can be a '5v7'.
    • If your party encroaches upon another player's owned property and refuses to leave when asked firmly, your party will be considered the aggressors if PvP is dropped. In all other cases, whichever side drops the PvP intent is considered the aggressor.
    • We will be reviewing specific parts of rules based on loopholes and combat concerns; further amendments will be added at a later date.

3.2.13 Chyron|Agent Use & Data Transfers

Provided you have a Neuroport or Internal|External agent you can use the 'Activate Chyron' RPR ability. When activated, you may /channel another character and speak to them or exchange text messages through an IC context.
Before taking any communications IC through this ability, the /channel'd player must also use the Activate Chyron ability and if unable, they cannot be contacted remotely and must discard any call/text given.
Clan Chat, Discord and other methods of non IC communication are not to be used as a substitute for this ability and will be punished as Metagaming under Rule 3.3 with a minimum 3 day ban.
Text messages and your characters voice are the only things you should be transmitting through this ability. Due to privacy and consent concerns, under no circumstances is a character permitted to record or transfer BDs, Audio/Video or take pictures of other characters by any medium unless explicitly sanctioned by staff for DM purposes.
The only forms of communication are in-game 1 to 1 chyron/word of mouth, there are no Mass Data Transfers of information outside of the Arcadia Media Section.

3.3 In Character vs Out of Character

Blending, or bleeding, is the conflation of IC (In Character) actions with OOC (Out of Character) actions. It's crucial to separate the player from the character.
This rule also covers Meta-knowledge, which is information known by the player but not by the character.
A certain level of Meta and Bleed is natural in roleplaying environments. However, bleeding becomes problematic when OOC issues with a player behind another character influence IC decisions in a way that doesn't align with the character's knowledge or behavior. Similarly, it's an issue if OOC harassment occurs due to IC actions. Handling conflicts in character helps prevent bleeding.
Conflict resolution should primarily occur in character to minimize bleed. If you suspect bleed is occurring, request mediation for the conflict.
Meta-knowledge is problematic when OOC information is used to drive IC actions against character knowledge or to gain an unfair advantage. For example, an altercation happening is not a valid reason for you to ask your clan-mates OOC to log in and assist you. To do so constitutes both Metagaming and Powergaming.

3.4 Children and Pregnancy

Pregnancy brings with it the difficult subject of Children. Because of the mature themes on this server, children and any roleplay involving them are strictly prohibited.
Loose references to childhood are allowed expressly in the writing of your character’s backstory.

3.5 18+ Content Consent

This server allows its players to explore darker themes. This includes violence, body horror, other explicit content. This does not include Non-con, Rape, or slavery. All three of these are prohibited forms of RP.
We ask that players keep consent in mind when engaging in this type of roleplay, and do their best to keep the most extreme offenses out of openly public spaces to ensure express consent is present.
If you play on this server, you consent to view this content, but do not have any obligation to directly engage with it. If you are ever uncomfortable in a scene, for any reason, you have full rights to pause and/or refuse the scene entirely. If you are using this clause, always leave at least one post explaining that you are invoking this right in Local Chat.
ERP is prohibited from public areas of buildings (Clubs/stores/bars). Though some areas within public venues may be considered private areas. (Use common sense.)

3.5.1 Non-Con Clarification

This server does not tolerate the following themes/actions:

    • Rape
    • Mind Wiping
    • Mind Control
    • Doll Chips/Behavioral Modification
    • Sexual Assault
    • Blackmail

Barring mitigating factors, all of these offenses will carry a minimum 3-day ban and can escalate to permanent bans with or without appeal at staff's discretion.

3.6 Rapid Response Teams representation (TT, Max-Tac, NetWatch, etc)

Neon Eden allows players to represent a wide variety of character types, themes from various corporations and backgrounds, and while we are very lax on what this entails to allow player freedom, players are expected to appropriately portray the role they are undertaking.
Unless your character is currently on a specific tailor-made gig or narration has authorized you for a specific use case to do so (they will say so), you are not to roleplay actively responding Trauma Teams, Max-Tac, or any other high-threat get-in-get-out extraction team. This means no kitted-up Trauma Team members or Max-Tac walking around in armored uniform, period.
You may still roleplay smaller duties, and your character is still allowed to be part of these teams off-screen, but by no means should you be in a response team outfit doing so.
If you are unsure if you fall within this rule or not, you may open a ticket.

3.7 Points of Interest (PoIs)

All PoI's placed on the map on any location the player does not own must have a 3-day expiry time. They must include direct clues to the character who placed it, and they must be readily followable when placed. You must facilitate them reasonably following up on your PoI to lead back directly to your character. If you do not, they may open up a ticket for staff investigation.
You can do this by including your character name/Discord username and communicating with the player in a cordial and friendly manner.
