Highwind
The ancestral homeland of the Vikarahns. They share their land with Cowins as well, but according to legend, the Cowins came from somewhere else, which not even they know. This land has a heavy scandinavian/norwegean inspiration. It is a mountainous continent, with the tallest mountain in all the world, the Highwindian Mountains.
At the top of the Highwindian Mountains sits Snowtop City, a massive multi-level complex of a city built into the side of the tip of the mountain. How the Vikarahns and Cowins pulled this off is a feat of remarkable engineering.
In the northern region of the continent is Frostbite Valley, its name being quite literal. Due to the way the valley sits cradled amongst the Highwindian Mountains, super cold air becomes entrapped in this valley, creating some of the coldest temperatures in the world, often colder than even Arctica.
Geography
Highwind is a mountainous continent, home to the tallest mountain in all of the world, the Highwindian Mountains. In the northern reaches of Highwind, nestled within a crater surrounded by mountains lies Frostbite Valley, a very cold and frigid region, in fact one of the coldest places in all of Terr'ahna.
Ecosystem Cycles
Being near the top of the world, Highwind has shorter summers than most other regions in the world, while also going through very long, dark and cold winters. In the summer months, for Highwind typically from the middle of Conflee to the end of Debrial, the country enjoys warmer temperatures and calmer skies, as well as calmer seas around its southern shore. However, from the end of Debrial all the way to Conflee of the following year, the days grow short, the temperatures frigid cold, the skies rougher and the sea around the southern shore violent and dangerous. From the Raanu to the middle of Maryve, Highwind suffers through endless nights and the coldest temperatures and worst weather of the year.
Localized Phenomena
In the northern reaches there lies a valley nestled within a crater surrounded on all sides by tall mountain ridges. Due to this natural formation, super cold frigid air gets trapped within this valley, turning it deathly cold, where strong violent blizzards will form almost instantly. All too often people would get lost in Frostbite Valley as the Vikarahns have named it, and will either succumb to the elements, or, if they're lucky, they will get rescued by the Maji Guard. Most are never found at all and are presumed dead. This is not a vacation spot.
Climate
The climate here is cold almost year round, with the warmest temperatures being around 15.6 to 18.3 degrees Celsius in the summer months, along with calm stable weather for the most part. The cold and frigid winter months, which is most of the year, the temperatures will get as low as -10 degrees Celsius, with snow storms and blizzards wreaking havoc across the land, wind storms wreaking the coast.
Fauna & Flora
Of course being the kind of climate that it is, and the type of geography that it is, only the hardiest of Mystia and flora can possibly call this place their home. One of the most common Mystimon are @Ramulus, a mountain goat Mystimon which will make its home along the sides of the Highwindian Mountains. Due to their hardy and strong nature, these beasts are often used as pack mules, especially for merchants making their way up the Deathraw Passage to get to Snowtop City at the top of the mountain.
The People
While most High Atlantea humans migrated over to Atlantea in the Second Age, some still remain here in Highwind, alongside the gruff and hardy Vikarahn and the ever so spunky (and perhaps intoxicated) Cowin people. There are also some scattered reports of a few Wekan family groups living in seclusion high up in the Highwindian Mountains, along with some incredible and outlandish stories of a Wekan living somewhere in Frostbite Valley. Who could possibly survive that place? Even with thick layers of hair?
Natural Resources
This land has some of the richest mineral veins in all of the world, from iron to silver to gold and silversteel.
Tourism
One of the main things people will say about visiting Highwind is don't visit in the winter months.
