Azulus

These dragons are infamously caring and gentle, and have been known to use their powers to heal and to help smaller creatures under attack by predators or the like, perhaps even save people in need. They seem to see it as their duty to protect creatures unable to save themselves. For a long time they were once considered a myth, until they were finally documented, by Doctor Ivan Sanderson, when he had such an encounter where this creature saved his life.

Basic Information

Anatomy

It is a small pink and white dragon serpent with six small white wings, and two short forelimbs and two longer back legs and a long tail.

Biological Traits

Male Azulus are lightly larger than females.

Growth Rate & Stages

Azulus Evo's into Ligara.

Ecology and Habitats

Azulus are quite rare, so it hasn't officially been determined thus far exactly what habitats they thrive in, though all reports of them places them mainly in desert or mountainous regions. However they also typically only show themselves to people in desperate need.

Dietary Needs and Habits

From what anyone can determine, these creatures seem to feed on different kinds of vegetation, even cacti, making them herbivores. This tracks with their gentle and caring nature.

Behaviour

Azulus typically have a gentle and caring nature, and seem to appear to those who are in desperate need of help. They will take care of and protect those who can not defend themselves and will come to the aid of those who need it the most. Many mountaineers who have gotten lost in the mountains in severe conditions report encounters with these creatures, as well as those who get lost in the desert.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Due to their caring and gentle nature and their tendency to come to the aid of those in desperate need in extreme circumstances, it was decreed by the Allied Nations Council in the late Second Age that Azulus would be protected by law and any attempt to hunt them would be penalized harshly.

Facial characteristics

They have a cute long snout with a flat nose and large round blue eyes. They are almost always reported as smiling or looking as though they are smiling.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Reports place them in Almahna and Atlantea for the most part, however they have also been spotted in Highwind.

Discovery

From the notes of Doctor Ivan Sanderson.

"Through out my expeditions, I have risked my life in a variety of ways. Such is the hazards that come with my choice of career. Some Mystimon are dangerous, and should be approached with extreme caution. Others deserve our reverence and respect. Thus, I believe the latter applies to Azulus. I feel this quite strongly, and I will continue to respect and revere these creatures to which I owe my very life for the rest of my days.

This is an account I had yet to put to paper, from years before I met my now assistant, Jane Dawn. It was in fact she herself who finally convinced me of the importance of documenting my encounter with this creature. I had thought that by not officially documenting and reporting my findings about this creature, that I was in some way paying it back for saving my life. But she convinced me that people need to know that this creature does indeed exist and deserves our respect. We can work with our government to get it protection as needed.

My account is from six years ago. I was traveling with a caravan from Knifepoint back to my home in Calrune, when suddenly the caravan was struck by falling rocks from a landslide. The Camulra were all either killed or ran away. Almost everyone in the caravan was killed. I was the only one left alive, but just barely. My leg was broken. I had no water. Getting back to Calrune was not going to be easy. The mountain side continued to be unstable. I had to move away from it as quickly as possible before more rocks fell. I knew Varnshear Village was some ways away from my current position. But I was also disoriented. I had no way of knowing I was going in the right direction. But that was my only recourse. I had to make my way for the closest town in order to get help.

I spent what seemed like an eternity inching my way through the dry heat of the desert, the sun beating down on me. I grew more and more disoriented. I felt as though I were going round and round in circles. Eventually I collapsed, unable to go on for much longer for the lack of water and the pain in my leg killing me.

The next moments are a blur to me, but I remember coming to a couple of times to see a serpentine shadow hovering over me, with big blue eyes looking into my own, before everything faded to black once more. The next moment I came to I could see it more clearly, and it looked like a small pink and white dragon serpent creature with small white wings floating above me and everything was aglow in a bright yellow light.

The next time I came to, I awoke to find myself in a bed in someone's home, as a villager woman tended to me, and what she told me sent chills down my spine. She told me when she found me, she saw the same creature, a small pink and white dragon, for a split moment before it vanished suddenly. I am more sure now than ever these creatures are indeed real and they deserve are utmost respect. I certainly owe it my very life.'
