The Wasted Lands

The Wasted Lands was originally a thriving island filled with fauna and flora. This changed after a major battle between gods, demons, and other otherworlders happened on the island. The battle itself lasted for almost a month and only ended when undead started rising from the corpses left on the battlefield and it became all but impossible to fight them off.   After the battle The Wasted Lands was not disturbed for several decades until the dwarfs at Du'hra started dumping waste from their mines and forges there. This did not disturb the undead situation but it did attract some foolhardy adventurers after possible treasure the dwarves might have overlooked or in hope that they would be able to wrestle ancient magical items from the undead that still roamed the island. Eventually small bases started forming of the leftover stone and small fortlike holdouts were able to clear patches of the island.   The forts are still in use today but their use has shifted from fighting undead to being bases of piracy. While the pirates are far from organized, they do have a code preventing them from attacking each other and focus on their targets of trade in the region.   Recently there have been discoveries of caves below some of the fortifications that seem to connect with each other and places much deeper. Although the caves look natural no one is quite sure if they actually are and for how long they have been there. Many argue that it seems to coincidental that the caves should exactly connect up the fortifications on the island while others simply believe the fortifications where build on top of caves that soon become forgotten.

Climate

The island is generally temperate in climate but every few months fog banks roll over the island and stay for several weeks. The cause of this is not quite known but the undead appears to become more active during these foggy weeks.
