Desolai Island

Desolai Island is a mostly isolated island far out from the mainland of Ayrath. The island only has one major entry and exit point, and that's on the Southern Peninsula where the only major settlement of Harbor Town is located. Most people on the mainland are entirely unaware of the island's existance.

Geography

The island is mostly a forest, with a beach on the southern end as well as a couple of stone beaches as well. There's a peninsula on the Southwestern side of the island where Harbor Town is located. The forest on the Southern end of the island has widely been chopped down, creating plain fields instead. Most of the island's borders are steep, jagged stone cliffs, and on the Northern end of the island these cliffs open up to reveal a series of sea caves. The forest on the Eastern side of the island is much lower in level than the rest of the island and floods frequently.

Ecosystem

Desolai Island is not particularly diverse in its wildlife, but what is there creates a thriving ecosystem which has gone generally undamaged by the people of Harbor Town and the Forestfolk. There are Trolls that live in several caves in the island, as well as a variety of smaller animals, but other than humanoids and Trolls, there aren't many kinds of large animals on the island.

Localized Phenomena

A strange new type of creature appeared on the island recently, which is incredibly dangerous to the occupants of the island. The species has no real name, but there are many of them, and they call for help when they feel they're in danger. Additionally, the (now abandoned) graveyard has had many reports of hauntings. There are also rumors of a monster wandering the streets of Harbor Town, although nobody knows how much truth these rumors have.

History

The island doesn't have much known history, the most famous thing about the island is that the infamous Samryn once called it home.

Tourism

In recent months, the island has become an incredibly popular tourist destination, as people speculate that there are great riches to be found on the island that belong to the now-deceased Samryn. However, the presense of these riches on the island is completely unconfirmed. Before that, the island was not a common tourist destination, only visited by those with intent to move there, or those who already knew its occupants.
There are two major people groups on the island: The people of Harbor Town and the Forestfolk. The former live in a more typical society, while the latter are naturalists who never settle anywhere permanently.
