Trolls
Trolls are an incredibly dangerous species. They have become less common with time, now often residing deep in caves, but when encountered alone it is rare that someone survives to tell the tale. They are large beasts and among the most sentient of any non-anthroest species, even having their own -rough- language. Some Trolls have even been known to speak common. Trolls can be found all across Ayrath, but are most common in the frozen Dwarven Kingdom to the north and the unsettled lands in Ayrath's center.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Trolls are large and bulky creatures with a rather humanoid build. Their head and arms are disproportionately large to their body. Their bones are large and thick, protruding from their body as spikes in their elbows and knees, in addition to three large horns in their forehead. On average, their muscles are larger than most anthroests, in addition to having more muscle to begin with.
Ecology and Habitats
Trolls are a species capable of surviving in most environments, but because of anthroests they have mostly been pushed from the surface into caves. There are now two troll variants that exist as a direct result of this- cave Trolls, which are a vibrant red, and surface Trolls, which are generally a much darker, more blood red. Trolls have been seen as far north as the Northern Peaks in the Dwarven Kingdom and have been seen as far South as the Nation of Ruin.

Geographic Origin and Distribution
Trolls can be found all over Ayrath. They are generally more common the farther North you go (a direct of Dwarves not living on the surface of their kingdom), but can still be found as far South in the Lifeless Desert and the Littlewood Cluster. They are the most heavily present in Northern parts of the unoccupied territories in the center of Ayrath.
Average Intelligence
While trolls are often considered a dull species, when compared to other non-anthroest species they are actually among the most intelligent. They are among the few non-anthroest species capable of speaking common and have even been known to create small clans similar to lion prides. Trolls have even been seen lying traps for their prey -including anthroests- to make their hunt easier.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Since Trolls live primarily in caves, they have developed an incredibly strong sense of smell. They have become incredibly unreliant on their eyes, and some Trolls have even been known to be sensitive to light. Some Trolls are even said to be able to use a form of echolocation, although these claims are largely unsubstantiated.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Trolls are commonly shades of red (with cave Trolls being a more vibrant red and surface Trolls being a more blood red)- but some Trolls have been known to be entirely different colors. Some Trolls' colors are more fitting for their environment and better for camouflage (such as white Trolls in the Dwarven Kingdom and more sandy-colored ones in the lifeless desert). However, a troll's color does not determine anything about how dangerous it is, and they should still be avoided at all costs.
