Merchant Circles

Archivist's Excerpt from: Alone in the Cold: The Story of Orphan Towne, its Strange History, & its Stranger Occupants, CVI 42.4

At the core of Orphan's economic congress of the Merchant Interchange is a series of elevated circular platforms surrounding the Grand Colonial Academy of Science and the Heuridium, known across Orphan as the Merchant Circles. Rows of businesses line these circular boardwalks, facing outward, with footbridges connecting one to another and tram stations dotting the outer spots.

Mostly these shops consist of clothiers, tool manufacturers, book shops, ceramic wares, linen wholesalers, etc, with the occasional eatery or other sort of place in the midst.

Conceived by the town's founders as a means of not only keeping the economic system of Orphan Heights turning, but a measure of the old world still alive, the Merchant Circles were elevated, but not at the height of the Grand Colonial Academy of Science or Heuridium, to showcase its importance in the society. They are frequented daily, where coin is almost magically transformed into linen or ceramic or alcohol.
