Tramyards

Archivist's Excerpt from: A Tale of Almost Two Cities: Orphan Heights & Related Histories, CVI 42:4

Although most of Wesbeldt is known for its Limeiron forges and poor behaviour, one such location stands out as a lone bastion of the Corps. of Tramway Engineers, who otherwise do not often frequent the are. Used for storage of the large inventory of Orphan's tram cars, as well as the primary lectral power station for the rail system, the Tramyard is something of an operational brain of the Tramrunners, though they would argue this and say the brain is either the main offices of the Corps. of Tramway Engineers, or one Hugo Esker of Harchester. This leaves the Tramyards as, perhaps, the brain stem of the operation?

Regardless, the site escallated to extreme notoriety in October of 1897, during the last hours of the events of the Great Initiative, specifically the invasion of the Galó people of Jalóheim, who chose to use the site as not only a gathering shelter for encampment, but as something of a gun to the head of Orphan, threatening to destroy the lectral generators themselves if their demands are not met. It is the site of the deaths of Constable George Pines, the Galó High Priestess of Jalós, Tevir, and the near-fatal wounding of Inspector General Alec Hartchild, but none of these events hampered its reputation as easily the most cheerful place in Wesbeldt.

Purpose / Function

To house unused tram cars, as well as act as a repair station and utility yard for the trams. The yard also houses the main lectral generators for the entire rail system of Orphan Heights

History

At one point in time, long before the trams of Orphan Heights ever even began churning, the Tramyards were one of the storage facilities for the Limeiron foundries. It served its purpose well during the construction phase of the great dome over the towne, and all the primary infrastructure, after which time, the general need for excessive storage facilities waned, and the lot fell into disuse, then disrepair. Eventually condemned by the Municipal General, the lot was slated to be razed and destroyed to make room for a golf course, a personal mission of Orphan's elite since its inception and something the town has, in their repeated, incessant terms, been sorely lacking all along. At the last moment, the Corps. of Tramway Engineers purchased the lot, claiming to have far lower standards for their buildings, though everybody knows this isn't true. They had a need for storage and maintenance space for their burgeoning tram car inventory, as commission orders from the Corps. of Lectral Incandescent Transitioning for lectral tram cars just seemed to get going, no matter how many they produced. The Corps. then established the primary power station for the tramways at this location as well, as its prior infrastructure for shipping and receiving made it ideal.

The Tramyards are under the jurisdiction of the Corps. of Tramway Engineers
