The Lost Babies

The impact

Despite the rivalries between the Babies, all of them formed strong links together, as they grew up together and went through the same torturous experiment together. This is even more true between the two members of each team.   As a consequence, any deaths of one of them in the experiment were strongly felt by the survivors and traumatised them. The grief was increased by the callous behaviour of the humans of the Company's Research Space Station towards the events and by the fact that the deaths represented the rest of the Babies' future.

Remembering

The Babies remember and mourn all of their lost brothers and sisters.   In the sign language they have developed to communicated without being understand by the humans of the Company, they have signs for each of them, and they regularly list the names of all the dead as a commemoration.   Signs for the 13 alive members:
  • Abéline = intelligent (intelligent)
  • Alex = couronne (crown)
  • Blanche = arrogant (arrogant)
  • Benoit = contrôleur (controller)
  • Damien = colère (anger)
  • Flavien = tristesse (sadness)
  • Julie = optimiste (optimist)
  • Nadège = peureux (coward)
  • Philippe = provocateur (provocator)
  • Tristan = bricoleur (tinkerer)
  • Grégoire = échec (failure)
  • Éloi = jaloux (jealous)
  • Yolanthe = petit (small)
  •     In order to gain more sympathy from the Aliens, Abéline writes a "blog post" on their network detailing their history in a "slightly redacted" manner. There, she talked about how all of their siblings died and how they miss them.
