Psy clashes

Challenge type: A specific confrontation that can happen as part of a challenge, especially during duels. Description: A direct clash of psy energy between 2 individuals, to determine which one is the most powerful. This is seen as a confrontation of pure wills, and so winning has a lot of psychological impact, both on your opponent and on your popularity with the public. Clashes are therefore favoured by duellers and politicians. Obstacles:

The amount of psy energy someone can access is slightly linked to genetics, but it is mostly the result of skills and will. Therefore, confidence is key, and adversaries will often try to intimidate each other before a psy clash.

Losing a clash will badly destabilise someone, and it is likely to make them doubt themselves and lose further confrontations against the same adversary.

Psy energy is rarely used in its pure form. To do so, adversaries will hold each other's hand or forearm and attempt to push their psy energy inside the other person, provoking a very painful burn at the point of contact. The longer the confrontation, the worse the burn will be and the more distracting it will be. Adversaries can shield themselves against the other's energy, but doing so will divide their focus and is likely to make them lose. Therefore, the winner having a minimal burn or no burn at the end of the clash is a proof of true dominance.
