We overheard the plan to redirect the generation ship to Chalcedon and carve the planet up for resources. It seemed plausible that we could convince Horus that this was not the best plan for his people. The generation ship was currently, as I understood, at its intended primary destination to restart their culture away from civilization and intruders of all kinds.
The Jedi were thawing out and decanting a few of the frozen Cestian natives at a time, (finding interesting personalities like Dr Celabin, Chief of Medical and Cybernetics, and svatros, of the Alkari warrior class, whose people attacked the ancient Cestians at the wrong time and had to join them on the generation ship).
Captain Koleen said we have 14 enemies in the battle-bridge, the secondary control room close to main Engineering. I sent my new friend, the tentacle droid, to observe them without raising much suspicion. Horus did eye it with disdain, but allowed it to remain.
The droid watched Horus step away to a private side meeting room, set down a small disk hologram projector, and started a conversation with none other than Sargon in his usual black armor. Horus reported that the plan was progressing to manipulate people to attack Chalcedon. They had finished cloaking the generation ship with a massive disguise based on Vorpaderan's holographic shield belt design. Sargon specified very clearly that he wanted Vorpaderan alive... and the associated "Jedi scum" and 'rabble' to be killed. Sargon appeared to be the source of 'reeducation' virus, to 'mold your populous' to make them 'easier to manage'. Horus was not pleased about that mind-control of his people. End transmission.
Horus turned with his back to our door.
I sent the recording to all of our team.
So'Zen alerted us that Dr Sulivan had improved Almon's antivirus to Sargon's mind-control virus. He called it the "innoculant" and was preparing it as a more permanent cure than what Almon DeJoy had completed.
I attempted to contact the Cestian cyborgs in the room using only my mind. I found them to be more advanced than a Bomar Monk. (One of these days, I knew I will have to come to terms with my estimate of what exact point an electronic crutch for a human brain starts doing the thinking for its host and becomes an Orange Catholic No-No.) I applied the antivirus to the Cestian by the door.
A dark code from deep inside, perhaps far away, rushed in and rebelled against my invasion with violence and rage. It turned the code to irrational numbers. I resisted with my training to undergo emotional attack in debates without succumbing to uncontrolled emotional reactions. It took all my fortitude. It was exhausting.
I remembered what Vanya had told us about the Eborrean puppetmaster problem (which similarly took control of purely biological life forms) and how to clean them from a living person.
Kitari identified Vasillok, the ancient Cestian in front of the command console, who Kitari expected was uninfected. Kitari told me exactly where to place the green crystal he had given me earlier which is programmed to stop the launch sequence and send the engines into Standby mode.
Meanwhile, Vorpaderan and Captain Koleen made Horus an offer to combine forces against the Eborreans and against Sargon.
Kitari used Almon's antivirus to much better effect than I had, using the conventional radio communication protocols of his people. He stunned them, not for very long. I ran into the command bridge, dropped down Doc's Snooper goggles, remembered the intense training the clones had given me, loaded the crystal into my slingshot (the correct orientation, not backward), took careful aim, and launched the crystal exactly into its slot under Vasilok's elbow. The room's consoles and holograms flipped into standby mode and the planet's engines slowed to a purr then to peaceful quiet.
Vasilok was not pleased. I spoke to him like a Gallifreyan Time Lord from that episode of Jedi Quest, ensuring him that I meant only to help him and his people. With Kitari's help (and a replay of the conversation between Horus and Sargon) we convinced him that Sargon was not interested in the best interests of Vasilok's people.
Cleaning up, we found the entire planet was built as a generation ship from the central fusion core up.
Returning to Nightwick City on the surface, we met with the local leaders and their trade council and several ancient Cestians to explain to everyone what "all-that-was-all-about". The soon arrival of the Katana fleet was still a problem, but knowing that the world had a planetary shield now (with cloaking technology) would help with that.
We learned that the now extinct avian people were called the Merzani. Vorpaderan wondered if they might be related to any known current species/cultures. We found the Mrlssi from Timpany sector. There could be a relation there. Katani found this interesting.
Dr. Sullivan explained the Alkari space-vikings who attack only to gain honor, and are loyal for life unless their trust is betrayed.
The Eborreans wanted the generation-ship technology that the Merzanni created to save their people.
