Drakunas Forest

The Drakunas Forest is a large sprawling forest of mostly flat land with some areas of large hills. The forest is south of the Frostspine Mountains, east of the Grifas Highlands, and southeast of the Didžiausias River.   The forest is also called the Forest of Dragons given the historical presence of green dragons such as Kadrys, the green dragon King Zigmautas I Miskunas slew during his ascension, and wyverns.   The Drakunas Forest is generally not as cold as the Zalius Forest as it is further south and some of the cold winds from the Frozen Sea are blocked by the Frostspine Mountains. Winters are not as long here as the are in the Zalius Forest.

Geography

The Drakunas Forest is primarily flat or rolling hills with some large hills that tend to be directly south of the Frostspine Mountains. The land also has two major rivers that run through it that feed from two small lakes as well as other minor rivers and lakes that can be found through the land. The land surrounding these lakes are often wetlands or marshlands.

Fauna & Flora

The trees of the Drakunas Forest are pine, spruce, alder, cedar, and birch with oak trees being more common in the southern areas of the forest. The forest floor is typically covered in lichen and is also rich in various types of muchrooms and edible berries.   The fauna of the Drakunas forests consists of animals such as various types of wolves, various types of grouse, owls, weasels, osprey, certain kinds of snakes, hares, deers, foxes, and more. Many of these animals also have giant and dire versions living in the forest which makes the forest that much more dangerous.   The rivers an lakes of the forest are full of freshwater fish such as pike, zander, salmon, perch, eel, and bream. It is said that the lakes of the Drakunas Forests contain deadlier underwater creatures, but there have been no verified accounts of this.   As the name implies, the Drakunas Forest also contains dragons. Wyverns and green dragons are the types that have been mostly encountered. The forest also has a type of wyvern that is considered much more dangerous than the normal wyvern.

Natural Resources

The wood of the Drakunas Forest is the most common resource that is exploited by the populace. The wood is both used locally and for trade. The lumberjacks of the Drakunas Forest are known for their bravery and dedication.   The forest is also full of a variety of mushrooms and berries which are very important to both the local economy and cuisine. The forest also contains many plants that can be used by alchemists to make potions and other alchemical concoctions.   The few large hills in the Drakunas Forests are rich in iron, copper, limestone, dolomite, and clay. But, the prime resource of the hills of the forest were found in the mines around the village of Rubinaskraigo. About fifty years ago, the miners of Rubinaskraigo found some deposits of whitesteel. These deposits are the only to be found outside the Frostspine Mountains and more importantly outside the borders of Kuzad-Nikar. The people of Miskunas still do not know the secrets of smelting whitesteel, and thus much of the whitesteel has been traded to the frost dwarves. This has caused Rubinaskraigo to grow in size and become much more wealthy.
