Demonweb Pits
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Demonweb Pits are a shattered realm of blackened stone and hollow chasms, draped in layers of calcified webbing and suspended darkness. Though once a layer within the greater Abyss, the realm has begun to twist free of that cosmology, pulling itself into a pocket reality at the will of its sovereign goddess, Lolth, whose ambition weaves planes as readily as webs.
Geography
The terrain itself resembles a scarred crust of dead rock. Across its surface lie craters, pits, and mountainous ridges reminiscent of the pockmarked surface of a long-forgotten moon. The air tastes of rust and ash, and gravity clings inconsistently to surfaces, further disorienting the unwelcome. Overhead, a distant red sun smolders during the day; at night, eight glaring crimson stars form the constellation known to drow as the Eyes of Lolth.
Though nominally Layer 66, the Demonweb Pits have grown apart from the core lattice of the Abyss. Connections to surrounding layers remain, but are increasingly selective and maintained only at Lolth’s discretion. Her realm’s planar threads stretch far, even touching the Material Plane, the Shadowfell, and other Outer Planes where drow culture or heretical cults flourish.
Portals within the Pits are hidden, reactive, and treacherous—some disguised within dreaming webs, others requiring spoken truths or sacrificial offerings to open. Rumors speak of one thread leading directly to the mortal underdark, and another reaching the icy depths of Agathys.
There are Dead Magic Pockets, in forgotten webs and collapsed tunnels. The deeper realm lies not upon ground but within colossal strands of planar silk that coil through the void, forming endless bridges, hollows, and sanctums. These span across broken craters and stone husks, binding citadels and crumbled domains like insects trapped in amber.
Notable Locations

A massive stepped pyramid at the center of the realm, wrapped in thick metaphysical silk. At its summit stands a black dais, where Lolth appears when judging mortal or divine supplicants. A spectral current of drow spirits winds through the Demonweb, pulled by ancestral guilt and spiritual obligation. The river threads through caverns and webs until it reaches Lolth's Iron Ziggurat, where the most devoted souls are judged, and consumed, by the Spider Queen. There are Dead Magic Pockets, in forgotten webs and collapsed tunnels.
