Ellaniath
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Hidden deep within the colossal spires of Colothys, where ledges crumble underfoot and the winds scream of betrayal, lies the secretive sub-realm of Ellaniath, sacred to Vhaeraun, the drow god of thievery, stealth, and rebellion. More legend than location, Ellaniath is not marked on any map nor glimpsed by any chart, its very memory is stolen from those who leave.Ellaniath is the name of Vhaeraun's realm, the drow deity of thievery. It serves as his base of operation and as the place of his followers' afterlife.
This elusive realm functions as both sanctuary and reward: a sanctum for Vhaeraun's faithful souls, and a shifting redoubt from which the god dispatches shadowy missions throughout the lower planes.
Geography
Ellaniath is embedded within Colothys, yet behaves unlike any fixed territory. It drifts between the canyons and mountains, never appearing in the same place twice. Its trails are illusions, its entrances obscured by whispered lies and mirages of stone. Those who stumble into the realm do so only once and forget.
Vhaeraun himself wipes the minds of intruders or departing guests, not out of cruelty, but as a masterstroke of divine secrecy, a thief’s domain must never be exposed. Even the gods tread lightly around this cloaked hollow.
Features
Nobody outside of Ellaniath, save the ruling god, had an idea, where the realm is located, apart from the very general knowledge "somewhere on Colothys", and how it looks like. Vhaeraun wipes the memories of those who stumbled on his realm.Inhabitants
Ellaniath is home to the souls of the faithful, those who served Vhaeraun in life as spies, assassins, rebels, or deceivers. Most become shadowy petitioners adapted to the landscape’s tricks and treacheries. Among them are the Vhaeraths, rare souls who retain full memory and skill from their former lives. Unlike most Carcerian petitioners, Vhaeraths may leave Ellaniath, sent on divine missions or seeking redemption or revenge.Divine Servitors
As reward for exceptional service, some followers are transformed by the god into loyal agents and guardians:- Farastu, Kelubar, and Shator demodands serve as keepers of shadow archives and living traps.
- Air, Earth, Smoke Mephits act as messengers and saboteurs.
- Shadows and shadow fiends patrol the twisting woods of the inner realm.
- Yeth hounds bay across the canyons, trailing betrayers who broke their vows.
- Shadow dragons, rare and regal, guard ancient secrets hidden within the moonless trees.
History
Ellaniath was once a realm of Arvandor, when Vhaeraun’s path briefly aligned with that of Eilistraee. During this time, the two divine realms interwove, a twilight forest bathed in half-moonlight, dotted with luminous moonstones.
But when Ellaniath fell into Colothys, the forest darkened. The moonstones, half of them once radiant, grew dull, then black. Now, only flickering shadows remain, and the only light is the glint of ambition in a traitor’s eyes.
