Iron Wastes

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Iron Wastes is the 23rd layer of the Abyss, The Iron Wastes stretch across a brutal, frozen expanse of towering glaciers, jagged ice cliffs, and wind-scoured tundra, where fury is etched into every gust of snow. The land itself seems to grind its teeth in anger, blizzards rage without pause, skies churn with grey malice, and only the wrathful endure.   Perpetual storms howl over the peaks, and temperatures plunge so deep that even thought feels frozen. Yet buried beneath the howling cold lies a complex of fortresses, rifts, and half-buried structures of ancient power, some claimed, others still defiant.

Geography

Geographical Features

Glacier Citadel
Carved into a titanic glacier that moves with unnatural will, this fortress serves as the heart of the layer’s dominion. Pools of frozen ichor reflect memories of rage and vengeance t.
Blacksteam Rift

Howling Rift
An enormous crevasse whose shrieking winds carve temporary tunnels into the ice walls. The sounds here gnaw at the psyche and Each storm reshapes the passages, trapping explorers in ever-changing mazes of frost.

Noteable Locations

Grjotgardheim
A partially collapsed fortress deep in the glacier's heart, within which is imprisoned a slumbering proto-deity encased in ice. The structure is surrounded by wards that crackle with ancient, primal hatred. Those who remain nearby risk exposure to raw mythic resonance every day which impedes their wisdom.
Volstaad
A war-encampment built on fractured permafrost, where ancient tribal rites of dominance are still enacted. Honor duels and blood-feasts are common here. A character may earn the right to a secret or magic boon if they defeat a local champion in single combat.
Stoldottir Gate
A standing stone arch carved from eternal permafrost, bearing runes in abyssal and celestial script. It connects to the plane of Ysgard. The portal can only be activated when a significant offering is made - a treasured item must be sacrificed atop the ice altar. When the gate opens, for 1 minute, the skies fill with black snow and red lightning.
Eye of Veshvoriak
A glacial sinkhole spiraling hundreds of feet below the surface, ending in a mirror-like red crystal “eye.” It pulses with Abyssal resonance. Meditating here for one hour under the ]right rituals, allows brief contact with the mind imprisoned within. In return for difficult tasks, it may offer hidden truths or magical knowledge otherwise lost to time.
Gate of Seven Lights
ealed under crystalline ice, this shimmering portal leads to a dungeon beneath the eladrin city of Astrazalian in the Feywild. Attempts to enter are met by check to stabilize the gate]planar resistance.

Localized Phenomena

After a week in the layer, each creature might become enraged during stressful events, uncontrolled.

History

Once a peripheral layer of frost and silence, the Iron Wastes became infamous during the later decades of The Blood War when it resisted multiple infernal incursions. The terrain favored no side, only the most furious could endure. Glacial ruins mark the resting places of Devils, Demons, and planar invaders alike. Today, the layer is avoided by most except for those seeking forgotten wrath, relics of vengeance, or ancient compacts bound in ice and fury.
