in First Age

Welcome to chapter 7 of the World of Silencia. Here we offer a look at how crafting is done for both the average adventurer. And for a more experienced audience. Many of the items listed in this section were crafted by experienced adventurers. All whom now offer these items, for a fair price, to be bought by you. Though good luck finding some of these individuals. As many of them are world renown adventurers who have managed to either defeat gods, or beings of equal power.
 

How to make Items

So you wanna make some items? Well to bad, you're probably not set for it. You got the equipment? You got the skills? Do you have the faintest clue what an Aiter is? If you answered yes to at least one of those questions, you're ready.
 

Experience

Firstly let's start with your experience. For each item you craft, it will take time out of your life. Time you cannot get back, time which is experience. Thus we start with how much time and experience you wish to put down on the item. The more offered, the more refined the item becomes. Just like one would expect, sacrifice enough time, and at least something will pop out!
 

Materials

Next we start with what materials you are using. For example, oventium is an extremely tough metal. To the point that it does not heat up without the help of the sun itself. Thus items made from it tend to be far slower in the crafting process. As one takes time to heat each bend of the metal into the right shape. Vice versa, common wood takes little experience and has no real difficulty to it. Thus items made with it tend to go by fast and be exact. As one does not have such complex requirements to overcome.
 

Enchantments

Next we get to the part most magic casters live for, the enchantment. Have you ever wanted to spit fire while wearing a helmet made from dragon bone? Well you can, however, like everything else this can go wrong. And usually depending on the spells and enchants being added, these items can end up adopting strange curses and boons. Thus one should be careful when picking the spells they make. As well as know that each individual enchant is typically unique in its design. While they may share commonality in what they do with another, none are ever written or carved the same exact way as another.
 

Emotion of beast slain

While this more applies to items that are crafted by the highest ranked craftsmen of the world. On occasion you may run into an issue where your item suddenly hates you. How can this be? Well if you killed a beast in an especially cruel matter, or prolonged its suffering, or maybe caused it so much hatred that the beast's blood boils at your very sight. All these play a factor in how the materials can react, especially when spells and enchants are involved. Thus we recommend you to hunt and kill responsibly, like a good hunter, never make anything suffer. And if you do, be prepared for the nasty outcome, or just sell the body. As someone else's problems, are not your own. And coins always cheer up the saddest situations.
 

How they impact Items

Items overall have a life of their own in the world. Each has a personality, some are just more forward with their views. Some speak, some have goals, and some just want to remain silent. While your typical items in most cities won't possess any items like this. It is an all too common sight to witness the many adventurers carrying around such gear. Much of it is macabre in its design, but effective. See Curses and Boons for more info on other reactions.
 

Soul Crafting

Items made from the kllozin magic of soul magic, items made this way tend to have formerly living individuals trapped within. Many of which will lend their power, though in exchange many attempt to take over the mind and body of the wielder. Thus soul crafted items, regardless of their crafting from soul coins in Mors or from soulim the metal. All are known to be extremely dangerous, and advance for their designs.
 

Blood Crafting

Though long forgotten, the blood crafting style is not fully lost. Much of the world has been unable to find the way the fae started their crafts. But some believe that items made from the blood of powerful creatures are far more capable then even soul crafted pieces. With all of the upsides and none of the personality, blood crafted items tend to create their own personalities. Many simple in mind, but with complex or strange goals.
 

Divine Crafting

Items made by the gods or for the gods, and most often done by the divine casters of the world. There are more divine items in the world than soul and blood crafted combined. With so many gods having risen and fallen throughout the ages. Few could wonder why so many dead god items offer great boons to their wielders. So long as said wielder revives the god and their following.
 

Demon Crafting

Items made in Abaddon or during the clouded age typically fall into this category. With many having either their craftsman sealed within, or ancient gods and demon lords inside. Each demon crafted item is said to be rather dangerous to the weak willed. As they focus only on taking complete control of your body and mind. Focusing on their powerful will to overwhelm the user. Though items like this are said to be the only ones able to fight and slay Law Bearers. Few of such powers still exist where they are easily obtained. With the majority remaining deep in the deep dark, hiding in powerful tombs yet to be explored.
 

Metallurgy

The art of combing and making your own metals. To which few actually have mastered, though many craftsmen have tried. The artform is almost impossible for the average craftsman, but to the experienced. Well one can create things such as Sun’s Tear which grants a fantastic bonus to items made from it.
 

Skills of the Trade

Below are the common skills and trades we recommend everyone familiarize themselves with. As many are going to be your go tos when in town. And the last thing any adventurer wants to do is look dumb in front of a craftsman they are about to ask to create a godly item. Do you really want to have to ask "What's the difference between armor and clothes?”. No, you do not. Thus, you should pay attention.
 

Skills

Each of the following are skills that you as an individual will need to either learn or find someone who does as a contact. As it is important not only to be able to make your own gear out in the open world. But as well to have individuals you can rely on in town that can buy your goods or make you items you couldn't normally.
 

Armor crafting

Armor craftsmen come in all shapes and sizes like their products. With thousands dotted around the world, this is probably the hardest and easiest profession to join. With many armor craftsmen constantly looking for more apprentices or hands. It is rare to be turned down if you have a decent head on your shoulders. Though due to the large variance between each armor smith, it is rare to find two that are alike.
 

Weapon Crafting

Crafting weapons is never an easy task as we all know. To do so with skill takes both talent and time to grow. Thus it is not uncommon to find many journeymen weapons crafters traveling the world. What is uncommon is to find a good or capable journeymen weapons crafter. Thus we recommend sticking to cities, as well as trying your hand at it. Never know when that crappy dagger you made a hundred copies of at a random smith's outdoor smithy will come in handy.
 

Blacksmithing

Well if you're neither an armor or weapons smith, you're a blacksmith. Which is to say you make anything and everything else from metal. From housing, to random items you tinkered with. This is a surprisingly rare field for many to go into as the intricate need for capable hands is so high. Few jotun are able to make watches the size of a snowbeards wrist, though at the same time few snowbeards can forge a full jotuns watch in a single lifetime due to the size.
 

Bowmaking

Ah, you chose to be an elf… well we are judging you but we understand. In all seriousness, it is rare to find any bowmaker. Due to the lack of popularity, and the use of magic. Few find themselves able to stay afloat doing only bowmaking, thus many skilled craftsmen tend to dabble into both bows and wood working.
 

Wood Carving

The more acceptable career path for those non cannibalistic sorts. Wood carving offers a great chance to make boats, cookware, chairs, and other such things. Thus they tend to be the most common trade, with every city and town having one.
 

Leatherworking

So you're wanting to live as a ranger or hunter? Well this is the field for you, allowing you to create great wonders. Each that you can sell in town, then spend your coin on drink and poor life decisions. Then finally head back out into the cold and miserable wilds. Where your life is constantly on the line, your coin never lasts, and your life feels like it would be better spent adventuring.
 

Trapmaking

Not the rarest but the most uncommon to find in a town. Most trapmakers prefer to wander, as many are adventurers themselves. Though you will come across the occasional shop, it is more often than not that they are former explorers themselves. With many having taken deadly wounds, seen family and friends die, or just got tired of eating rations. Thus those few that do set up shop should be “tip toed” around whenever possible.
 

Trades

Below are some examples of common trades most individuals pick up. You as an individual are probably one of these lot. And we recommend that you read about the others. That way you know how they can help you, and what you can help them with!
 

Alchemist

One known to make potions, craft strange mixtures and work in tonics and oils. Those who make a living with mixing plants, monster bits and other such things. Tis a great life, if one enjoys the smell of rancid corpses and strange flowers. But potions and alchemy sell well in any nation. From needs to help with keeping things up, to the need to put to sleep a powerful beast. All fall under the great school of alchemy.
 

Poison maker

Those destined for evil rarely find themselves without this skill. To be a great poison maker, is to be a fantastic killer. Though some specialize in creating anti venoms and poisons, few are willing to sell their creations. Poison makers find themselves as secretive types due to the misbelief of their work. With few willing to accept any poison makers within their lands. Out of fear of being poisoned themselves. However, the black market pays well for the right poison. And some nations will hire you personally for your medical expertise.
 

Smith

Though a generalized term for those who craft and make things by hand. The smith is a very important role to any party of adventurers. For who can repair your armor or build you new items after slaying a powerful beast. You can’t carry the beast home, so someone who can break down the vile abomination for its best parts is a need.
 

Farmer

Though the most common trade in all of the world, it does not take away from its value. Each is well learned in poisonous plants, dangerous beasties, and the best way to harvest most foods. Thus farmers are a dire need for any town to survive. However, don't just take their kind and simple lives for granted. Understand that each farmer outside the city is typically a retired adventurer themselves. Protecting their lands and family while selling their crops to make a living.
 

Miner

The last and by no means least important role in modern society. With each individual town comes smiths, builders, and wealthy merchants. Well they all need goods, they all need metals, they all need someone to go into the deep dark and dig it up. Thus many miners are paid quite well, and few have reason to leave their roles. However, the life expectancy for your average miner is only a few years. With powerful beasties finding their way to the surface all the time. Miners find themselves at the mercy of creatures like Mr Hands, all the time.
 

Item Rankings – 1 to Beyond

Below are how each rank typically gets classified within the world of crafting. Understand that many of you who wish to take this journey may never see the heights of your ability.
 

Ranking -10 to 0

While not uncommon, most often these are considered training items. Each item is typically chipped, poorly weighted and overall a poor craft. But they allow the user to train with similar weight and get used to the true item. Thus they serve their purpose and can be usually found for a few emerald plains.
 

Ranking 1 to 5

Finally, you're a normal boy/girl/attack horse and can wield a weapon, armor, or item properly. Welcome to the club, typically these items are treated as family heirlooms and pieces from long forgotten adventures of the simple folk.
 

Ranking 5 to 10

With many of the lesser demon-folk having wielded these items or well respected smiths crafting them. Those that rank in the 5 to 10 score, typically find themselves as almost an artifact like in design. Each is unique in their own design or at most come in a set.
 

Ranking 11 to 15

The items crafted by master smiths and those of the Clouded Age tend to fall into this category. Only ever finding them at the deepest depths of the tombs spotted around the world. Each is considered to be an awakened piece of equipment. Giving it their own personalities and abilities.
 

Ranking 16 to 20

The gods themselves have granted a champion a weapon of mass destruction. Items of this rank are considered divine in nature and usually worshipped. Thus it is rare to see them outside of the church they serve. Few have ever wielded an item of this power, and few ever will.
 

Ranking Beyond

Considered the ultimate goal of any grand master craftsman. This level of item is considered to be on rank with the Law Bearers own chosen. As well as the ancient Age of the Fae items. Few items have reached this rank, fewer crafters have done so. It is believed that one must sacrifice a god at minimum to make an item powerful enough to be at this rank.
 

Curses

Have you ever felt hated by the gods? Have you ever thought your patron wanted your life? Have you ever felt your family's bloodline was going to lead to your ruin? Well that would be a curse. Typically handed out in different contexts, here we see the most common. As individuals continue to craft more powerful items, these items have a chance of developing on their own. In most cases, depending on the materials used and spells used, this curse can vary. But typically they fall in line with some sort of theme. For example, a bear killed protecting its cubs in the winter. These materials may cause your new armor made from its hide to suddenly require you to protect those around you until you die. Or you may have a hatred toward a specific species that killed it. One from which you are driven into a mindless rage and forced to attack them until you fall or they are no more. Thus curses are not to be toyed with, and many experienced smiths attempt to avoid them. Even going as far as having items blessed and exercised prior to crafting.
 

Boons

While every item has a chance of a curse happening when you craft it with magical enchantments. Not every item has a chance at getting a boon. Boons stand as a unique gift only granted by beings of divine power. Most often granted by a god or a champion of a god. These boons can manifest in multiple ways that will assist an average adventurer on his/her journey.
 

Spell effects

Every item that is crafted is said to have a chance of getting a random effect. Each of these effects can be influenced through different materials or enchantments. With the majority falling under the enchantment category. Each enchantment typically grants the item the ability to cast magic through it. Give a continuous magic boost, or even grant the user the ability to cast magic when they couldn't before.
