Oath-Sworn
Description
"Through unpaid dues, blood-lust, power gain, or one's deepest desires, you made a pact with a powerful being who has granted you awe-inspiring abilities. Hold up your end of the bargain and they'll hold up theirs." -Class Description from The World of Idoria TTRPG
Background
The sugar babies of the magical world, Oath-Sworn have contractual obligations to do the bidding of their patron. It doesn't matter if that's doing their laundry, overthrowing a king, killing everyone in a certain area, or spreading their influence; the Oath-Sworn must keep their side of the deal or they'll face drastic consequences.
Oath-Sworns' patrons can be virtually anything that has enough power to give out, from devils, to demons, from angels, to seraphim, from fae, to eldritch gods. So long as the being has enough power to lend, a desire for a contractual agreement, and a willing participant, then a pact can be signed in blood.
Typically, Oath-Sworn are contractually bound for life, a lot are bound even beyond that. It is incredibly rare that an Oath-Sworn can out-weasel their patron and get out of their duties or contract, as those offering the power in the first place are usually cunning and dastardly beings with no real sense of compassion. This is evident by the fact that most patrons only reach out to their victims during their darkest hour, when all hope is lost, and when they know the victim's mind is too distraught or broken to think clearly.
An Oath-Sworn's powers typically subsist of spells, tricks, and rituals that are meant to keep the Oath-Sworn alive and executing their side of things.
Much like a Champion, an Oath-Sworn can easily speak to the one giving them their powers. Although, unlike a Champion, an Oath-Sworn can readily speak to their patron at-will, as well as invite them- or find them suddenly- into their presence with little to no notice or effort.
