Orilon

Demographics

Orilon has a relatively broad base of ethnicities. However, within the city, there's a visible socioeconomic divide. Those in Old Town and Clearplace tend to be wealthier or middle class, while residents in Cotton Horn liver closer to the poverty line. Soldiers and tradespeople form the working backbone of Butcher's Arch, while students and families fill out the core of Clearplace.

Government

Orilon is governed by an elected Mayor, who answers directly to the Shogunate of Cheria. While the Shogunate has never visited, the city operates under its laws and traditions. The mayor's office is located in Clearplace near the central schooling complex, but most ceremonial or large administrative events are hosted at the Citadel. Law enforcement and civic services are locally managed.

Industry & Trade

Orilon's primary industries include meat processing, agriculture, craftsmanship, and education services. Artisan goods such as handwoven textiles, herbal teas, and carved trinkets from Old Town are exported to nearby cities. Process meats from Buter's Arch are one of the Shogunate's most dependable food exports. The farming communities around Orilon supply everything from wheat to lavender to potatoes, supporting both the city and trade with Meshia and Temia.

Infrastructure

The city's infrastructure is modest but efficient. Roads are paved with aged stone in Old Town and concrete in newer districts. Public services include a small but capable medical facility, several schools, a merchant guild hall, and a barracks in Butcher's Arch. The roads leading to nearby farming communities and into the Old Willow Woods are patrolled and maintained, though rarely upgraded. Water is sourced from underground wells and maintained through a system of cisterns, an old but reliable method.

Districts

Old Town

The founding district and cultural heart of Orilon. Tourists come here to admire its old timber buildings, hand-carved signage, and antique shops. It's a nostalgic place, full of narrow alleys, flower boxes, and pride. The district has hosted generations of families who now run the city's most treasured craft stores, bakeries, and tea houses.

Citadel

Built a century after the town's founding, the Citadel was intended to honor and attract the Shogunate. Though it never achieved that purpose, it has become a prestigious civic center. Today it hosts diplomatic meetings, important weddings, and is used for state funerals and historical tours. It sits on a slight rise above the rest of the city and is surrounded by immaculately kept grounds and statues of noteable Orilon citizens.

Clearplace

The beating heart of Orilon's daily life. Schools, grocers, apartment complexes, general stories, and post offices are all clustered here. It's busy, diverse, and filled with children during the school season. It's the most walkable district, and its blend of practicality and accessibility makes it attractive to middle-income families and educators.

Butcher's Arch

Both feared the respected. This district is the city's military and meat-packing hub. The streets smell of blood and steel, but they also carry a legacy of discipline. Soldiers from this district are known across the region for their toughness. many of Orilon's meat-processing facilities are located here, staffed by both locals and short-term laborers. Stories still linger about gang wars from decades past. Many say the name "Butcher's Arch" isn't just a reference to slaughterhouses.

Cotton Horn

On the city's outer edge, Cotton Horn holds the city's laborers and struggling families. The homes are small, patchwork structures with cracked walls and rusted roofs, but the community sprit is strong. Most of the city's agricultural workers and cleaners live here, many of whom walk hours each day to nearby farms or jobs in other districts.

The Citadel: A fortified structure used for official functions and tourism.

Meat Processing Plants: Located in Butcher's, critical to local and regional food supply chains.

Artisan Shops: Old Town offers highly valued handcrafted goods.

History

Founded in the year 1150 AOE by settlers who saw promise in the rolling hills near the forest edge, Orilon began as a small village of stubborn pioneers. Over time, the town expanded toward the river and began trade with surrounding communities. When the Citadel was built in 1250 AOE, it marked a cultural turning point. Even without the Shogunate's attention, Orilon solidified its place as a loyal and proud city, standing firm though wars and internal unrest. Though not a military power, Orlon is respected for its resilience and its people's fierce pride in their legacy.

Architecture

Orilon is a blend of rustic timber and stone, particularly in Old Twon and Clearplace. Homes are modest, with slanted roofs and shuttered windows. The Citadel stands apart, crafted from white and dark grey stone in a fortified Cherian style, flared spires, narrow windows, and a commanding presence. Butcher's Arch is industrial and blunt, full of heavy, functional buildings, while Cotton Horn is almost patchwork, a mix of scrap and salvage.

Geography

Orilon is situated along a shallow ridge with a clear view toward the distant peaks of the Triumvirate of Ashya. East of the city lies Old Willow Woods, while farmland rolls out to the south and west.

Climate

The city experiences cool springs, mild summers, wet autumns, and harsh winters. Winds from the Triumvirate bring dry chill in the winter and rich moisture during the fall. Most buildings are built to conserve warmth, and firewood is a vital resource during the colder months.

Natural Resources

Agricultural Yield: Wheat, barley, corn, root vegetables

Livestock: Chickens, pigs, and cattle are raised locally

Freshwater Wells: A system of ancient wells still supports the city's needs

I expected more from this place, to be honest. Given its proximity to Old Willow Woods and how often the Lost Dragon Tribe traded with them. On another note, I wouldn't mind knowing more about the stories of Butcher's Arch. These stories speak to the culture but the lack of a written record says something as well... like the stories weren't important.
