Inspector General Alecsander Tantilus Hartchild, II (a.k.a. Alec)
Archivist’s Excerpt from: A Tale of Almost Two Cities: Orphan Heights & Related Histories, CVI 42:4
Alec Tantilus Hartchild is the current Inspector General of the Parliamentary Constabulary in Orphan Heights. A rather hard man, though not unexpected in his line of work, he stands among the lower ends of the aristocracy of Orphan, and has spent his life "getting his hands dirty" in a career that others among the nobility would prefer avoid.
He is the master of his family's old ancestral estate, Kilnhaven Hall in Sparrowdale, where he lives with his family and generally avoids people whenever possible, which means when he is not at work.
Despite his gruff exterior, it is said that he is an ardent family man, though his wife is rarely, if ever, seen socially in public. They have two children, Tabitha Hartchild, whom the Inspector General particularly dotes upon, and Ellery Hartchild, whom he prods endlessly towards higher achievement. Nevertheless, he is devoted to his children like none other.
His sister Eglantine Lorecroft married Hiram Lorecroft at nineteen years of age, and Alec was nearly as devastated as she and Hiram were by the premature death of their son from Scarlet Fever at only eight years old.
Rumours persist around Alec Hartchild about his involvement in some cloak-and-dagger Secret Constabulary and other high-end political matters, but these gain little grounding beyond gossip columns and folks with too much time on their hands.

Family Ties
The Hartchilds are closely tied to the Lorecroft family. The reasons are altogether certain, as their aristocratic standing is unequal, and their professional life has them fairly far afield of one another. Alec Hartchild's sister Eglantine Lorecroft married into the Lorecroft family, but their affiliation antedated this event, so it cannot be said to be the cause.
