Limeiron

Archivist's Excerpt from: Alone in the Cold: The Story of Orphan Towne, its Strange History, & its Stranger Occupants, CVI 42.4

Back in the early days of Orphan Towne, in the time of childhood of the great Ironmancer Artam Danhallow, one of the greatest innovations to come from the burgeoning Corps. of Limeiron Forgers was the invention of Limeiron itself (the Corps. had a different name back then). Its use throughout Orphan is, of course, not only foundational, but the very core of the infrastructure.

Without it, there could be no Orphan Towne. Meanwhile, Artam Danhallow, the man who would eventually come to be known as the "Great Ironmancer," would make his life's work the perfection of this metal, and the artistry of it.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Incredibly strong, resilient, just flexible enough to not easily shatter but rigid enough to maintain tensile strength even under massive stress.

Compounds

Iron and lime, mostly, plus some other compounds.

History & Usage

Discovery

The discovery of Limeiron is credited to the great Ironmancer Artam Danhallow, but records are incomplete in this regard.

Manufacturing & Products

Limeiron is produced when lime is added to molten iron and produces a kind of slag, removing the impurities from the iron. The slag is then removed, leaving a purer form of the metal in its wake, hence the name "Limeiron."

It should be noted that, in other Confluences, humanity had already formed this process at an earlier date, and some at a later one. The perfected form of the process would come to be known as "steel," though Limeiron itself is something of a proto-form or even larval-form of the strong, useful metal.

Distribution

Storage

The great forges in Wesbeldt would eventually need great storage facilities, but these would be eventually transformed into the Tramyards once the need for such massive quantities of Limeiron were exhausted and the town, the dome, and the infrastructure completed.
