Corps. of Tramway Engineers
Archivist's Excerpt from: A Tale of Almost Two Cities: Orphan Heights & Related Histories, CVI 42:4
The Orphan Heights Corps. of Tramway Engineers (or "Tramrunners," if you're a normal person) are the backbone of the Orphan Heights Corps. of Engineers as a whole, and frankly of Orphan Heights as a whole ... according to them. It is they who both run the trams and keep the trams running (hence the delightful double entendre of "Tramrunners," and so it is they who keep Orphan running on its much-ballyhooed clockwork perfection timeliness. They are responsible for the upkeep of all stations, landings, and depots across Orphan, though this often involves foul-language-laced disputes with the Municipal General over whose actual job it is to tend to the building needs, seeing as the Tramrunners work all day and the Municipal General can't be bothered to even see to lost keys for years on end. Nevertheless, the list of their duties goes on.
Mostly comprised of laboures from Harchester and Attistock, the Tramrunners are a loud but happy enough lot, simple but not stupid (well ... case-by-case basis), exceptionally good at their jobs, hard-working, and generally keep establishments like the Lager than Life Pub going. Their skills with engines and rails and couplers and switch tracks are legendary, as are their appetites and unmistakable copper Tramrunner Jackets. Probably their least-appreciated skill is actually in upholstery (trams do need cushions, after all), but truth be told, this is secretly performed mostly by a quiet coalition of the Tramrunners wives.
If ever you should encounter such a fellow, buy him a drink. He's the reason you got to work on time today.
