Temple of Jalós
Archivist's Excerpt from: Alone in the Cold: The Story of Orphan Towne, its Strange History, & its Stranger Occupants, CVI 42.4
Tucked away in the back of Jalóheim in the deepest portion of The Rift stands the Temple of Jalós, the most sacred structure to all of Jalóheim. Although primarily constructed by the settlers of the village early in its history, there is extensive evidence to indicate that the Temple of Jalós stands atop an older structure, though little detail is visible from above.
While the Temple is guarded by Serkers, only Shrinemaids are allowed within its walls, except of course for the High Priestess of Jalós. Only she, and those who hold her title, are privy to the secrets of the temple, its apparent rites of worship, and whatever else.
It is also the place where the High Priestess of Jalós allegedly communes with their spiritual entity/emissary to Jalós, the Blind Oracle. Only she is given the secrets of such communication, as well as whatever rites accompany it. Not even the Shrinemaids are aware of the deeper secrets of this place, but only attend its basic care and see to the simplest rites of worship.
Prior to the Settler's Skirmish, it was said to once house the sacred text of Jalós Zealotry The Dark Illumined Eye, that told not only of all the deeper doctrines of the faith, but divulged the secrets to divining the will of Jalós, and even predicting the Last Journey Home, as well as the method of crossing the Gate at Niavellir during said journey.
There was a period of months around 1890 when a number of Prayer Tags were left on the steps of the temple regarding the fate of a woman in the world yet to come after the Last Journey Home, but the responsible parties were never discovered.
