Shrinemaid
Archivist's Excerpt from: Alone in the Cold: The Story of Orphan Towne, its Strange History, & its Stranger Occupants, CVI 42.4
Although the adherents of Jalós Zealotry are primarily led by and known by such figures as the High Priestess of Jalós, or even the allegedly spiritual entity Blind Oracle, the bulk of the regular duties of the faith are carried out by the young ladies known across Jalóheim as simply Shrinemaids.
The girls, usually chosen young so as to properly indoctrinate into the tenants of the hybridized faith, are often drawn into service to the god Ilós through the hopes that faithfulness would yield particular honour and favour in the world to come once the Last Journey Home would be undertaken, especially regarding higher fates of themselves or loved ones in the world to come, related to their devotion.
Much of their work is simple caretaking of the Temple of Jalós itself, preparation of food for the festivals, chanting of the incantations during the Proving Rite, and other necessary charity work for those in need within the community. As such, Shrinemaids are generally considered a kindly and welcome sight, though little more than children.
