Paegor is violent and unwelcoming.

We made it to the ‘Scorpion Eye’ - that is what they keep calling it. There was supposed to be no one there, Jaxion said so. But he lied, Little Bug. The emptiness he said lingered in the mountainside smelled of smoking gears and blood that was no longer within the body. It was difficult to see, and for that I am grateful, lest the people I walk with see me choke on my own bile behind my mask.

Something horrible was there Brother. A man or a beast, living in the smoke that strangled so many innocents. It tried to take me, and had Gambit not been so close it likely would have. But… Gidget was not as fortunate. She was taken elsewhere, and though I could not see where, as we came together the burns on her skin and smoldering jacket was enough to tell her story.

Another weapon fired hot light at a wall, trying to drill through it, but it turned on us and

I do not think I wish to tell you about it. Know that we are alive. And also know, that we found many other people that were living too. Fifteen more soldiers were able to leave and return to their families. There were five longer bundles brought up with them, and though I have not seen this process, I know that men sometimes transport the dead like this. The being in the smoke lingered until the blanket they traveled in cleared out the broken glass, and we were soon to leave after.

The soldiers joined us in Gidgets machine; I sat as far back as I could, feeling like a rabbit stuck in its den with a hungry fox waiting outside. I said nothing, desperately wanting to ask the men if they had seen any of my clutch, but the weight of the warning Adromika gave kept my lips heavy and my tongue mute.

But my ears were sharp.

They say the mountain is alive; that it is a titan of a scorpion that the Deremitru are wanting to wake up and use it. But why? For what? What purpose could be behind ending so many lives without sorrow? Not even beasts bring such ruin simply because they can. These are not villains, Brother, these are monsters.

We were able to reunite families and agreed to help further. They say there is a mining town to the North that may allow us to venture under the mountain, but… is this wise? The soldiers in the base lost many lives, and they were armed and trained for battle. We are fewer than ten - what can we possibly be expected to do against something that can not be touched, funneling in mechanical pawns that can not be reasoned with?

Every door that opens invites us down new paths that lead only to danger. Am I truly where I need to be? I want to help, but I am horrified. What can I possibly do, Little Bug? Scream at anything that moves? Hide against a wall and let someone else get hurt? Aggressively move some rubble? The more I think of it, the more I feel like Jaxion is right. Maybe I should just stay here. If I am most useful by trying to break the cubes secrets, then it would be best for me to be somewhere that I can not get blood on my book, true?

Lux was kind enough to purchase a course on Io.na for me with her credit numbers (these still do not make sense to me) so I have something new to study before I try to get some rest. There are many things to think about, and I hope the new material can help my mind relax and focus on something that I can make sense of.

Hope to see you soon,

Xhoya

PS. Gambit has said he will be celebrating Homecoming!!! But… you knew that already, didn’t you? :)
