Elignatidae
Elignatidae is a small family of dragons, characterised by an extremely slender, whip-like tail.
Elignatids are found across the Milky Way, nature, and earth magics. Often born with ties to fire, these dragons typically inhabit hot, volcanic planets.
Taxonomy
Elignatids are one of two families in the order Elignatiformes. With thirty species, it is one of the smallest families. They're closely related to Plumeridae, feathertail dragons.
Anatomy
These dragons typically have a wyvern's body plan, with a slender body, two legs, a large head, slender tail, and large wings that serve as arms. Most species are brightly coloured with triangular, ribbed scales.
All species are sexually dimorphic, exhibiting unique patterns between males and females. Mothwings are the most distinctly dimorphic, males having brown wings while females have a bright pink and yellow.
The whip-like tail is the distinctive feature in all Elignatids. Threadtails have the longest tail in proportion to the body, with the tail three times the length of the torso.
The smallest dragon in this genus is the pygmy threadtail measuring in at just five feet, including the tail. The largest species is the great dusktail, with a wingspan of almost a hundred feet.
