Terramancy
Terramancy is an elemental field of magic concerning earthen elements. Terramancers can wield the very ground one walks on, manipulating it to grow mountains, carve rivers, and transmute raw minerals and other substances.
Terramancers are known for their destructive capabilities. In the past, global disputes have arisen, terramancy being the catalyst for conflict.
Gilded Vale
So, we're down here for thirty days, trying to uncover more runic stalactites. Look out for any cave openings, apparently they're littered everywhere. Watch where you walk. The residents of this realm don't take too kindly to visitors. The last research captain got sliced in half before they made it an hour down the river.
Terramancy stems from the Gilded Vale, an expansive magical realm. Most life in the Gilded Vale lives in the vast, open valleys. Rivers carve pathways through grasslands and deserts, rainforests cover the mountainsides.
Golden sunset skies give the Gilded Vale its name. Murmurations of birds, sometimes in their millions, fill the skies. Roaming beasts wander along the riversides, and dangerous predators lurk below, in the vast caves.
These caves are vast, full of stalactites and stalagmites, embedded with precious runes. Many a sorcerer has attempted to traverse these caverns in order to uncover these runes, but nobody survives the trip. It is believed that primordial soldiers guard these runes.
Utility & Usage
It is hard to pinpoint what terramancy targets; these materials are lumped together and referred to as the "earthen elements". This includes dirt and soil, sand, clay, mud, stone and rock, crystalline structures, metals, among many others.
What do you mean, someone turned a rocky planet to liquid?
The stronger a terramancer is, the better control they have over these natural materials. Beginners may just have enough power to move a couple rocks, with the most powerful capable of transmuting the properties of entire planets.
Terramancy is often used to read the feelings of a planet, or other celestial object. Listening to the core of the planet, the vibrations, and the ground, tells an earth mage everything they need to know. These sorcerers can heal damaged planets - typically, sophontic overpopulation is the most common reason for a planet to suffer.
Transmutation
Terramancers have the ability to transmute, or change the form, of materials. Gold into silver, rock into water, wood into stone. It is extremely powerful, few can achieve this.Crystal Farming
Magical farms are used to grow crystals and precious minerals. The largest of farms are placed in the orbit of planets and moons, with great room for expansion.Tremor Resonance
Tremor resonance is the act of communicating via earthen tremors. Terramancers often use localised tremors to send messages long distances.Hhrhrgghrhghrhghg... I slipped and fell in a massive pit. Looks like a salivating pitmouth made it. Assholes. If I can't get out of here in a few minutes, it will wake up and boil me alive.
Users
Aw, look at that cute little thing! Can I pet it? No, and keep your distance. That's a siliconetail. Might be cute, but their teeth are razor sharp. You see that paddle shaped tail? It's so powerful they can smack the ground and cause it to crack and tremor. Read it in a book.
Earth magic is one of the most common types of magic for an organism to be imbued with, alongside floramancy. In fact, these two magics often work in unison with one another.
Many subterranean organisms utilise earth magic to navigate tight underground space, wide open caverns, in the absence of light. Diamond keons, magical plants native to Xiskin, grow around precious minerals. Their roots dig deep into stone, locating these valuable rocks.
Plants are not the only organisms to depend on earth magic. Many dragons do, as well. Countless inanimals, such as golden boulders and those in Epitulidae, exist thanks to earth magic.
Terramancers are common on a handful of planets, such as Daenis, Maloruno, Norrab and Adamne, among many others. An earthen leyline punctures both Adamne and Norrab. Where the leyline emerges, the ground has cracked and magical energy seeps through. It is believed that Gloom, a mysterious magical phenomena where materials transmute supernaturally, derives from this leyline.
Magical Items & Artifacts
Bottled Desert
A biome in a bottle. A staple of any earth mage's collection of trinkets. They contain infinite sand.Anchors
Residents of gas giants will use mineral anchors to keep their homes in a stable position. Its weight can be adjusted with ease.Sandmaster Gloves
These gloves allow the wearer to carve hard stone as if it were liquid. Very popular with artists and artisans.Runic Stalactite
Stalactites (and stalagmites) carved with runes can store precious knowledge. Used to discreetly hide and transfer illegal information.Stone Discs
Stone discs are used to record vibrations. When spun on a flat surface, they recite what they remember. Only a mage can interpret these vibrations correctly.Ambergris
Ambergris is a solid, waxy substance produced by a number of whale species, used to digest certain foods. In its raw form, ambergris carries a terramagical essence....Oh balls. I don't remember which stalactite he said to check out. There's at least a hundred on this cave ceiling, am I really going to stand here and rub each and every one, to see if any runes appear? No, don't make it dirty.
