Gallowglass School
The Gallowglass (Gallóglaigh, meaning "foreign warriors") is a renowned class of elite mercenary soldiers hired from the other kingdom of Whenua to fight for Ingoakore.
Composition
Equipment
- Chainmail Hauberk: Gallowglass warriors typically ear chainmail armour (hauberk) that covers the torso and arms. Some would have helmets, though they preferred mobility.
- Long Sword: They wield two-handed claymores (long swords), ideal for heavy, sweeping attacks.
- Axe: Many also carry large battle axes, which are devastating in close combat.
Tactics
Gallowglass are shock troops, often forming the backbone of the army. Their heavy armour and long swords make them excellent for breaking enemy lines, while their reputation as mercenaries meant they fought fiercely for their pay.
