The Boil
Easily the poorest district outside of the city. Laborers unable to afford housing in the city, farmers, servants, and the homeless all live in this district. Verdant farmlands sprawl around the city, but those closest to this looming gate struggle to thrive. Many say it's a curse from the Winter Plague and the blood spilled on its soil because of it. Farmers eke out a living, but just barely as their crops grow smaller, taste more bland, or simply rot faster. The most this district sees is foot traffic as laborers come and go from the city at dawn and dusk.
History
Before the Winter Plague struck the city of Knotside, The Boil had been a fairly successful farming district. Laborers, farmers, and their farmhands lived out here along with a small hostel for anybody simply looking for a bed in which to spend the night. It had still been poorer than the Dryads Gate or Tip n Top but the people had enough to keep a roof over their heads and food in their bellies.
After the Plague struck the town the district became barren. The gate into the city was sealed shut as the districts just within became quarantine zones. Those in the district became ill quickly despite the quarantine, as guards became desperate and resorted to dumping much of the filth accumulated by the ill over the city wall, burning the piles when they became large enough. Ever since the land has become sick, with not even the druids over at Dryads Gate able to cure the land of its own unique plague. Each year the land seems to heal ever so slightly, but it is unknown how long it could take to be back to normal.
