Grundd
Grundd is the central mountain chain found in Tregaron.
Often called the Maneater Mountains due to the cannibalistic hill tribes, Grundd is a dangerous no man's land that is generally considered separate from the human Kingdoms. It's a massive time capsule of the The Cruel Age, where hill tribes constantly fight and wage war with each other over arbitrary boundaries set by rulers that rule through brute strength. It is one of the few last remaining places in the world that is considered a wild and untame frontier unchecked by governance.
Grundd is also often avoided to the dangerous creatures lurking within the mountains; most notably giants, ogres, and wyrms. The human hill tribes are said to have descended from giants, hence their curious appetite for human flesh.
Geography
Grundd is a very rocky landscape that's filled with closely fit mountains with deep, but verdant valleys that pock the mountain chain. The mountains are squashed together, but these valleys serve as cradles for much of the civilization living within Grundd -- and for warfare.
Most of the valleys, while green and fertile, are frequently contested by Grundds' inhabitants. The mountains are filled with monsters and beasts that are far too dangerous to create stable homes, and most of the Hillfolk living in Grundd resort to raiding and pillaging the neighboring settlements for supplies that allow them to better survive their inhospitable home. Hillfolk are known to barter mostly with weapons and equipment in mind.
Ecosystem
Grundd's ecosystem is almost entirely built on predation; giants and men hunt each other for meat, while rivers are usually used for fishing. Settlements, to date, have never managed to find themselves safely nestled long enough within the valleys to sow, and much of the flora is inedible or poison to humans.
History
Grundd has always been seen as a dangerous place, even by the Cruel Age's standards. This did not stop any prospective Kings from attempting to settle within the safety of its cliffs. All have failed, though, with the only testaments to their success now being left in ivy-choked ruins that litter the rocky landscape.
Giants and ogres have proven far too dangerous to settle near, and as a result, much of mankind has grown to widely accept that attempting to settle within Grundd is an impossible notion.
Not much has changed through history throughout Grundd; save for the formation of Hill Tribes and clansfolk that managed to eventually settle in small cuts of space across the mountains.
