The Cruel Age

The Cruel Age is a centries long period of intense strife that plagued the continent of Tregaron. True to its name, it is an era of unprecedented cruelty that was committed by humans, against humans. Lawlessness wasn't just common, it was a given; mercenaries and adventurers flourished by killing their fellow men for coin, and kingdoms rose, fell, and rose again through countless border wars until the rise of the Three Kingdoms.   The Cruel Age isn't well documented; many events that happened within this time were lost through strife, though the Owls of Esmerelda famously formed during this era in an effort to preserve lost records of civilizations that fell throughout time.   The Cruel Age ended shortly after Aine rose to prominance; his martyrdom had, ironically, lead to the fall of the many kingdoms that sought to silence him.
