Kuiper Belt

Welcome to Solaris, traveller! This is a slower-than-light science fantasy set in our own solar system.
About Solaris | Guide to Solaris | Prologue
On the very outskirts of the Outer World, the inhabitants of the Kuiper Belt live on the edge of a knife.   An asteroid belt beyond the outskirts of neptune, the edge of the Outer World. Most of the settlements in the Kuiper Belt are former colonies of the Trident Empire. Known collectively as the Outerreach, an interplanetary association for former Trident colonies. The most populated dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, Pluto, is not a part of the Outerreach, as it was a former colony of Mercury.
  • icy and cold compared to the rocky Asteroid Belt
  • Home to several dwarf planets, some with their own keystone
  • gravity in the kuiper belt is chaotic, and very much affected by Neptune. most of the dwarf planets have only avoided orbital capture because of their resonance with the orbit of neptune.

    Current Challenges

  • Oortite mining, old mines reopened, displacing populations.
  • Dangers from the oort cloud, hard living conditions, militias (?), lack of resources, exploitation
  • The impact of the oort cloud in the kuiper belt was mapped by Fritz Fram and the crew of the Nautilus in his last completed expedition. What did they find?
  • where the Sentinels hold the line against the horrors of the Oort Cloud.

I'm looking forward to reading the fleshed-out version, whenever it might come. The Oort Cloud is so scary!
