What is this?
This article is a primer: an article aimed at introducing you to the world of Solaris. It will briefly touch on topics you might like to know before digging in, and has tons of links to articles that go into more detail.
Solaris is intended for teens and adults. It is a diverse setting focused on queer characters. The story centers on the fight against angelic horrors. Some of the art and illustrations feature mild nudity.

Q: Where are we?

We are in Sol in the year of 220022, the only known system with life on each planet. Let me give you a quick rundown of each, and the people native to them.

Q: What's going on?

We'd forgotten angels exist, until they and the sun itself turned on us. Legions of Scourge hit Mercury each week. We thought it was over when the Keystone of Mercury sacrificed herself to chain the sun, but it started up again just a few years later. Thank heavens for Penumbra!

Q: What's a Keystone?

Each planet choses one woman who is given the power of the planet. In the ancient times people worshiped the keystones as gods. These days they're more like figureheads, and it's easy to forget how powerful they really are.

Current Events

1. Sol has turned on its own system. The angels who once guided humanity are now Scourge hellbent on destruction. The sustained collaboration of the planets has, for now, succeeded in containing the fight to Mercury.
2. The last Keystone of Mercury sacrificed herself to chain the Sun and contain the invasion. She left no known heir, and with the majority of the population seeking asylum all across the solar system finding the next Keystone may prove to be quite the challenge.
3. Shipments are being lost when traveling between Saturn and Jupiter. Rumours say these aren't independent pirates, but privateers. The question then is, who are they working for?
4. Tensions are at an all time high over the disputes over who exactly own the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter, especially now that the Belter Independence Movement is gaining traction.

Q: Where should I start?

Our story begins on Mercury. Penumbra is holding the Solar Invasion back, but not making any progress towards ending it. To aid Penumbra, Neptune has sent one of their Sentinels.   Sentinels are individuals who are recruited to defend the Sol system against outside threats. Sentinels sacrifice everything by honing themselves into weapons. This is the first time one has been deployed to defend against an internal threat.

This is such a fantastic opening to guide new readers to the setting. I adore the planet/species art with tooltip for more information - it is such a great way to introduce things. And we get more Blue! :D

This is such wonderful work. Technology and writing skill blending beautifully. I got very distracted trying to figure out what was wrong with Earth in the chart, though. LOL There's so much richness to your galaxy building here. Just beautifully done.

Thank you! I'm surprised people aren't as familiar with earth's alternative name, but I think using it helps clue people in that our planet isn't much like our own.

It was more the n/a in what I suspected was the species that had me confused. "Where did the humans go?" was one of my first thoughts, and that's not bad because it had me searching for answers.

Really a great overview article - that's what I thought when I actually used it to get a deeper overview. To be honest, I hadn't previously thought that overviews could be solved in this way. Above all, so short and clear, but at the same time linking in detail to background information (sometimes with the second or third click). If I still manage it, it will be included in my Reading Challenge.
