Parn

Capitol City of Emarian Moors | Threnai Training Ground

Parn is the Necro-Sylvan capital of the Emarian Moors—a city of decayed grandeur, ritual power, and strategic innovation. All civic purpose and magical infrastructure exist to serve the evolving vision of High Matriarch Yolena Emari, a legendary Sparkmage who has ruled for over 700 years and who has deep roots in Sangrithar's history.

The city is structured in concentric rings radiating outward from Yolena’s Bastion, her obsidian citadel and the central locus of magical authority. While outsiders associate the Moors with necromancy, Yolena’s legacy is equally tied to Sylvan bloodmagic, and the true balance of her abilities remains unknown—even to institutions like The Aethryn Lyceum. Travelers to the city would be able to find samples of necromantic and sylvan influences in equal measure. Being the only civilization to embrace Necromancy, most travelers underestimate the extent of Sylvan influence.

At the heart of Parn stands the Bastion of Endless Silence, a towering obsidian fortress. It houses Yolena ’s most loyal Sparkmages and functions as both political and magical control center. Yolena rarely leaves the Bastion but through its wards, conduits, and agents, she controls and observes Parn—and beyond.

Foreign Relations

Parn is generally unwelcoming to outsiders. Cloaked in cold civility and quiet surveillance amid the pressing environment of the Moors, Parn feels oppressive to those unused to the prescence of Necromantic sparkmagic. Despite this, Yolena maintains key alliances with the Mentat Council , several groups within the Eradite Wastes, and several Techno factions who find her pragmatism profitable and a refreshing divergence from the attitudes of many other Sangrithar nations. The extent of these connections is not wholly known to other countries in Sangrithar as most institutions wish to keep the extent of their connections with the Moors hidden.

The Emarian Lodestone

Most dangerous of all, Yolena controls the Emarian Lodestone, a situated deep under the runic glyphs of the Bastion, the arcane construct that allows her to detect Necromantic Spark usage across Sangrithar. Through this, she covertly connects with families—particularly in the Indovene Confederacy and Yalese Coast—who still practice necromancy in secret. She acts as a patron, offering material and magical aid in exchange for loyalty and service. The abilities of the Lodestone are not fully known, but given the application of Lodestones in other nations, most believe its presence makes Parn essentially unconquerable so long as a sparkmage like Yolena remains in power.

Parn City Districts

The city of Parn is divided up into distinct districts based on the location within Parn's concentric ring structure. Part of the foundational glyphs Yolena placed within the city give each district a subtle benefit to the activities of each district. Ultimately, Parn feels like a very organized and administered city as a result. Traversing the city means stepping into the different districts and feeling the shifts of magic within each.

Yolena's Bastion -- Inner Circle

The central Bastion fortification serves as Yolena’s seat of power, ritual laboratory, and necromantic command nexus. The towering, obsidian-clad citadel, Yolena's Bastion, stands surrounded by concentric bone sigils embedded into the foundation. Internally, it contains both living chambers for Yolena and her top advisors, as well as quarters for visiting dignitaries. Only members of the Inner Court may ascend above the second floor. Lower levels house the Chamber of Recall and the Threnai Forum. Deep below the Bastion, the Moors houses, within a labyrinth of vaults tunnels and chambers, the Emarian Lodestone.

The Rooted Ring - Inner District 1

This inner district serves as the power infrastructure of Parn—physically, magically, and administratively. Visually it leans into the Sylvan stylings of the Moors with living bone-tunnels reinforced with Sylvan root-caging that pulse with the Moors' signature blend of sylvan-necrotic energy. The Rooted Ring houses the Scribing Centers where rituals are logged, bloodline monitoring is conducted, and emissary records are kept. Finally, the ring is also home to the specialized training grounds for The Threnai, a patch of barren ground, razed clean by the Yuri-driven sparkmagic of the elite shock troops of the Moors.

The Boneyard - Inner District 2

Located in the Southeast quadrant, adjacent to swamp fortifications, the Boneyard serves as the military training and enforcement zone of Parn. Chief inhabitants include animated sentries, oath-bound sylvan and necro sparkmage warcasters, and new recruits early in their training. The Boneyard hosts constant drills, magical research into battlefield control, and grave logistics for Threnai campaigns. As such, it is one of the most spartan of quarters in the city, with a distinct military feel throughout.

The Hollow Court - Outer District 1

The Hollow Court is the most visibly "necromantic" part of the city and is used to project the mythos of Yolena to citizens and enemies alike. As a publically necromantic zone, the Hollow Court proclaims to the world Yolena's refusal to abide by diplomatic accords other nations have established banning the use of Necrotic powers. The Monument of Eternal Submission – a towering column of bone etched with the names of Emarians who have chosen service in undeath as well as life, is a constant reminder to citizens of their purpose under Yolena's rule. Visitors are allowed in the district but few leave without the feeling that they have been watched, measured, and added to some quiet list.

The Sylvan Precinct - Outer District 2

The Sylvan Precinct is a paradoxically lush, moss-choked zone where much of the population resides, particularly Sparked individuals of mixed Sylvan blood. Families of Emarian Sylvan sparkmages often choose to work in this district as well to support their sparked relations. The architeture of district is a distinct amalgamation of sylvan magic and traditional earth dwellings, culminating in Living shelters grown from twisted trees fed often fed with soil harvested from The Threnai Training grounds making it supremely fertile.

The Shiverden - Outer District 3

The Shiverden encompasses the Eastern half of the city just inside the city wall, near the Blackfen causeways. All foreign envoys, traders, and techno-allied agents must pass through and do business here. It is heavily regulated, clean, and unnervingly silent. Trade is brisk and done between officially licensed dealers located throughout the district. Most families that work in the Shiverden have been doing so for generations and have deep loyalties to both Yolena and the Emarian Moors. Merchants and traders who seek illicit goods will find no purchase here as fear and loyalty to Yolena keep local merchants on the straight and narrow. The reality, though, is that many items that are seen as "black market" in most other societies are seen as normal purchases here. Things like Yuri are regularly and openly traded here and the Shiverden is regularly visited by The Threnai.
