Eradite Wastes
The Eradite Wastes represent one of the most stark and dangerous environments in the world, a land where physical and magical extremes converge to create a volatile and harsh land. The Wastes are dominated by violence, subversion, and the aftermath of long-forgotten conflicts, all of which contribute to a constant state of flux and uncertainty. The region is defined by chaos, decay, and the pursuit of power, especially through forbidden magic, violence, and the manipulation of both bloodlines and technology.
Geography & Environment
The Eradite Wastes are a vast, barren expanse, a sun-baked desert-like land of cracked earth, cinder-strewn plains, and decaying ruins. The area was once home to powerful civilizations that waged brutal wars, leaving behind remnants of cities and battlefields that have been ravaged by time and magic. Vegetation is sparse, and the environment harsh, but this desolation only fosters the resilience and adaptability of the people who call it home.
- Wild Magic: The land itself is infused with wild, chaotic magic—a result of the cataclysmic battles that took place centuries ago. Warfare between cities and bloodlines created massive magical storms and devastating ruptures in the fabric of magic, warping the very nature of the land. This has created unstable magical energy that constantly ebbs and flows, making it difficult to predict or control. Spells cast in the Wastes are often unpredictable, and those who live there have adapted to harness this wild magic, making it an area of constant experimentation and magical innovation.
- Natural Predators: The wild beasts of the Wastes are feared far and wide. These creatures, often twisted by Chaotic Wastes magic , are fierce, unpredictable, magic-infused monstrosities. Such creatures act as natural hazards, challenging the survival of anyone foolish enough to venture too far from the relative safety of the few cities and strongholds scattered throughout the Wastes. They also serve as a natural barrier to invasion as foreign lands are ill-prepared to deal with the harsh realities they will face within the Wastes.
Government and Politics
- The Eradite Wastes are not a unified nation, but rather collection of far-flung city-states and tribal warbands vying for control over resources, safety, and superior areas for practicing bloodline magic. Few political leaders last in the Wastes, as violent uprisings, assassinations, and shifting allegiances take their toll. As a result, cities change hands frequently adding to the instability of the region.
- Cities in the Wastes are constantly in a state of flux, shaped by leaders with the will to power and violent ambition to hold onto them. These city-states are usually built around strategic resources, such as artifacts or access to rare magical energy pools. However, they are often in a state of constant warfare, not just against external forces, but against each other.
Role of Spark Mages
- Unlike Aristocratic nations where bloodlines are highly structured, in the Wastes, Spark-Mages interactions are more fluid and chaotic. Bloodlines are still important, but the land's unpredictability means that the full power of a Mage's Spark is often unrefined and dangerous. Many of the most powerful bloodlines in the Wastes combine Sylvan, Archon, and Necromantic abilities in rare and spectacular ways, allowing for exceptional destruction, manipulation of death, and control over life forces -- at least for as long as they can stay alive.
