Who Are The Threnai??

The Threnai are disposable instruments of will, created by Yolena Emari to break armies, assassinate leaders, and destroy rival factions. Every Threnai is induced (or coerced) into consuming Yuri on a regular basis and trained in fighting under the amplified power of the drug, sacrificing the future of their bloodline in exchange for a brutal, short-lived power surge with every dosage.

Yolena cares nothing for the family legacies they end — in her mind, the future is survival and dominance, not petty bloodlines. The Threnai are seen instead as weapons, not people. Beautiful in their destruction, tragic only to those weak enough to care.

Recruitment and Training

When a bloodline becomes troublesome, excessive in number, or strategically expendable, members are selected (or offered up) to become Threnai. Some especially zealous or ambitions Emarians choose the path, seeking power or violence — others are forced into it under the grim law of the Moors . Once Yuri is consumed, the bloodline ends , that bloodline will never be passed on by that soldier. Unless The Threnai's parents survive after their death to bear a new heir to their Spark the bloodline will end. For The Threnai themselves, there is no turning back, the life they have chosen, set in stone.

Public Perception

Among the common folk of the Moors , The Threnai are whispered about with awe, horror, and pity — exalted as terrifying heroes but also recognized as tools for Yolena ’s ambition. Other noble houses see the creation of a Threnai from among their kin as both an honor and a death sentence for their family's future influence -- giving them yet another reason to bow to the Emarian monarch's authority.
