2025 - Something's Fishy...

This page goes over my plans for and results from an experiment: seeing what happens when I force myself, a compulsive planner and CSS fanatic, to spend a month worldbuilding with neither of those tools. This was done for the annual prompt-based worldbuilding challenge, Summer Camp. If you're not familiar with it, check the official challenge page .

Summary

Past Summer Camps taught me I don't like applying prompts to ongoing projects. My solution was to create a new World that started and ended with Summer Camp. With no prior articles, no future goals, and no big intentions, I let the tides of inspiration direct me.   In the end, I had more fun and was happier with my work compared to my prior two Camps. I submitted sixteen completed articles, earning a silver badge, and published another eight outlines for articles I wasn't able to finish writing.   I loved seeing how much I could do in a month based on prompts, and will likely give myself a similar project next Summer Camp.
My only plans prior to July were to build a fantasy setting about ghosts. To give myself some added direction, I had two rules:
All worldbuilding must respond to a prompt.   I ended up with more ideas than I had time to write. I completed and submitted 16 articles and published an extra 8 that were outlines I ran out of time to finish. Not all prompts worked for me, but they didn't have to.
I can only use tools available to free users.   No CSS, no containers, no themes. It was difficult to hold back from making the stickers smaller or column spacing larger, but it forced me to focus on writing without getting distracted for hours by code and styling tweaks.

Goals

Destress
Aside from the usual stress of wanting everything to be perfect, this was a fantastic break from my bigger projects. It was a great feeling to start and finish a project in only five weeks, and I'm thrilled with the results.
Connect
This got harder as the month went on and later prompts didn't readily fit what I'd already established. The challenge was still worth it - all my articles are connected to each other in some meaningful way and I'm happier for it.

Summer Camp Camp Chill Badge
Nnie's Camp Chill Guidelines
  • Remember the prompts are suggestions, not requirements.
  • Write what you're passionate about, leave what you aren't.
  • Relax when you feel tired.
  • Fight off any pesky brain-squitos trying to make you doubt your work.
  • Don't abandon your non-summercamp goals! Write that article you're itching to write, even if it doesn't fit any prompts.

Article List

This list includes both my completed and submitted articles as well as the extra eight I didn't get a chance to complete. In past years, I've ranked my articles based on things like impact, relevancy, and priority. None of those fit this time, so I opted for a single ranking of importance - which articles are pillars of the setting, and which add fun details but aren't so vital.   Expand to see a table of all articles. Use the Roll button to open a random one in a new tab.

I'd say the name is a placeholder but so was "wow that's a lot of stars" and it's still holding that place two years later...

I've loved the idea behind Su-Mehr Qiamp since you first mentioned it, I think it's what I'm most hyped for this Summer Camp. I hope you have a blast worldbuilding freely, and a great Summer Camp!

I really enjoyed reading stuff from this world this camp. I guess working in a separate world was less pressure. :)
