Advocacy for Better Living
The Goal
The Advocacy for Better Living believes most people want to do good. However, causing harm is always easier and faster, and those willing to put in the extra effort are rarely the ones governing society. If those in power are taking the easy and selfish route and causing harm, it's up to everyone else to work against that tide to do good. The Advocacy seeks to make doing good easier for everyone. The Problem
While the Usharay Divinity has done much to revitalize the city in the decades since they took over, they're increasingly making decisions that harm its citizens. From enforcing worship of their leader, to erasing Qiampian culture in favor of their own, and even to refusing to provide aid to the city. Systemic issues affect everyone. They're most likely to result in dawn spirits, as people face insurmountable odds stacked against. They also contribute to dusk spirits as crumbling infrastructure and faulty equipment leads to accidental deaths. There's very little any individual person can do in these situations, and that's where the Advocacy comes in.The Solution
The Advocacy is a volunteer organization seeking to improve society through collective work. They raise funds to support families through hard times, redistribute excess food so less goes to waste, and gather volunteers to make what repairs they can when the government refuses. They have an entire branch dedicated to preventing hauntings, with trained grief counselors to help people cope with loss and life advisors to help people find ways past impossible roadblocks. They often work closely with seers - more than anyone else, seers encounter the effects of society's failings, and can report those trends to the Advocacy. The work is hard and doesn't pay well, but numbers show they've been able to reduce hauntings across the city. Though their volunteer rates dwindle at times, it always resurges in the next big event, whether a destructive Dawn or harsh flood season. Exercises like Festival of Halinn teach all of us that the only way we succeed is together No matter how hard it is or how long it takes, doing good matters.
