Wirvaan

Summary

The city of Iron, a large city of industry, dockyards, ship building and sprawling slums inhabited by indentured laborers. It has the largest Imperial Navy fleet presence and military Docks of the Empire. Sailors and officers can be seen frequenting the rare entertainment districts located next to the water.

Built on the western shore of Elastar on the Bay of the Hundred Spears. It offers access to the islands and the New Frontier.

A large bastion built onto an island in the bay dominates the view from the harbor. The star fortress is built with thick dirt filled walls in a pattern that ensures no attacker can ever approach without being in the field of fire. The fortress is equipped with the latest artillery made in the foundries of the city.

The slums are perpetually covered in the smoke and grime of the factories. More industrious citizens regularly whitewash their homes but most houses are covered in a black layer.

Districts

1. The Government District - the mayoral palace is located here, the headquarters of the police force and the local council hall.
2. The Brass District - the houses of the rich, powerful and the upper class citizens are here. The only place in the city that is free of smoke and has some nice parks and up scale recreation such as opera houses, theatre and coffee houses.
3. The Arms District - the weapons manufactories are located in this district surrounded by the ramshackle houses of their workers. Large heavily guarded storehouses are used for storing the valuable and dangerous goods.
4. The Smokestacks - the older factories of the city are located in this district with many of them billowing thick black smoke intermingled with pristine white steam. All kinds of manufactured goods are produced here and are often send immediately to the harbor to be loaded unto trade ships. The central railway station is located in this district and goods can be transported by rail from here.
5. The Dolon Piers - a district built for entertainment of the masses with wide piers extending into the bay. It features taverns, inns, bars, brothels, gambling houses, crude theatres, freak shows and circuses.
6. The Spearbastion - a formidable star fortress has been built on a small island in the Bay of the Hundred Spears. It has it's own docks for ferrying troops and sailors from the mainland. It also has a prison for both civilians and soldier alike.

Society

Many of the citizens are just Second-Class or Indentured laborers. The few are part of the wealthy upper class enjoying a life of luxury and leisure in the Brass District. There is little intermingling between the poor from the slums and the rich in the upper districts.

The mayor and the police force of the city do not tolerate the establishment of labor unions by the factory workers and will violently beat down any protests happening. This has caused some concern back in the capital who worry about the stability of the city and how it will impact the manufacturing of the valuable goods and weapons.

Military

The Imperial Navy has a large presence in the city both in sailors, marines and ships. Operations are conducted from the star fortress on the island in the bay with the headquarters of the Navy located in the heart of the fortress.

Sailors are often going into the entertainment district of the Dolon Piers and carousing in the taverns, brothels and out on the streets with the officers going to the Brass District for the more upscale venues like the opera houses and theatres.
