Mori - The Iron Quarter
The Iron Quarter is the industrial heart of Mori, a sprawling district where the air hums with the clang of hammers, the hiss of steam, and the roar of furnaces. It is a labyrinthine expanse of factories, workshops, refineries, and foundries, where the Empire’s ceaseless hunger for innovation and production is fed by indentured laborers, master craftsmen, and ingenious inventors. Smoke stacks rise like iron spires, belching dark plumes into the sky, while rivers stained with oil and soot wind through the industrial maze.
Important Buildings and Locations
- The Grand Central Railway Station - the latest addition to the district is the grand railway station where the steampowered trains of the Empire arrive and depart with the raw materials and precious goods that are the lifeblood of the realm. Passenger trains can be found leaving for all the major cities on the continent with a special Skyrail access for the rich and nobility.
- The Crucible Foundry - the largest forge in Mori, the Crucible Foundry is a sprawling complex where molten metal flows like rivers, and titanic machines shape steel into weapons, armor, and construction materials. Overseen by the Ironmaster's Guild, it is said that the forge never cools, its fires stoked day and night by relentless shifts of worker.
- The Steamworks Assembly - A district within a district, the Steamworks is where the Empire’s war machines, mechanical constructs, and clockwork automatons are built and repaired. Rows of steam-powered tanks, armored walkers, and mechanical beasts stand at attention in assembly halls. The hiss of hydraulic pistons echoes through cavernous factories as inventors fine-tune their designs.
- Refinery Row - A labyrinthine section filled with chemical refineries, alchemical distilleries, and oil processing plants. Dangerous vapors linger in the air, and entire blocks are restricted to designated workers some lucky enough to be wearing protective masks. The death toll has always been the highest in this sector due to the airborne toxins.
- The Laborer's Warrens - Cramped and overcrowded tenement blocks where factory workers and their families live. Narrow alleys weave between soot-stained buildings, and the glow of forge fires often serves as the only source of light. Disease and poverty are common, but so are resilience and camaraderie among the workers.
- The Ironforged Prison - A large prison complex of iron and concrete surrounded by high walls. It only has a single entrance gate which is heavily guarded. It houses many prisoners from all over the city and they are used for cheap labor.
