Mori
Summary
Mori, the capital of the The Empire, stands as a testament to human ambition, technological prowess, and imperial grandeur. Built upon layers of history, the city's foundations date back to the founding of the Empire, and its towering spires, intricate aqueducts, and vast industrial zones showcase the fusion of High Science and classical architecture.
The city serves as the seat of Emperor Gergorix XI, the Peaceful, and the Council of Clans, making it the epicenter of political power in the known world. Every decision that shapes the Empire is made within Mori's Grand Hall of the Council, where representatives of every registered clan gather.
It is home to the Temple of the True Flame, the holiest site to the Moriander faith where the Prophet Mori himself discovered the Primal Forces of Creation and Destruction. Pilgrims from across the continent come to the Temple district for healing, blessings and to make offerings to the Temple.
Districts
- The Imperial District- the heart of political power, home to the Imperial Palace, a sprawling fortress of marble and steel. The Grand Hall of the Clans, where the Council meets. It has the Mori Constabulary, the headquarters of the city's police force.
- The Temple District - the Temple of the True Flame, the most sacred site of the Moriander faith. It also features the opulent houses of the clergy.
- The Scholar’s Ward - known for its universities, research facilities, and libraries dedicated to High Science. Houses prestigious institutions like the Institute of Technological Innovation, the headquarters of the Society of Innovation.
- The Spire Heights - wealthy estates of the most powerful clans and noble families. Private gardens, grand manors, and towering vistas overlooking the Bay of Rocks.
- The Merchant’s Ring - bustling markets and bazaars filled with goods from across Elastar. Coffee houses are a popular meeting place of business men and merchants. Home to guildhouses of powerful merchant clans.
- The Iron Quarter - the industrial heart, filled with factories, foundries, and coal powered forges. Known for its steam engines, war machine assembly lines, and the labor union halls. The Grand Central Railway Station has been built in this district to allow a rapid distributions of imported and exported goods.
- The Harbor District - the dock- and shipyards of the capital has many ships in port at all times. Massive cranes on tracks unload the cargo of these ships and deposit them in the warehouses in the district for further distribution.
- The Rookery - the largest and most crowded district, home to Second-Class citizens, foreigners and indentured laborers. Cramped housing, shadowed alleyways, and constant industrial smog characterise this district.
- The Military District - the barracks complexes of the Imperial Army and their training grounds are located just outside the city to the south next to the Slums.
Society
Mori is a melting pot of cultures, drawing people from across the Empire and beyond. The city's grand festivals, public performances, and Imperial parades display the might and cultural richness of the Empire. However, the divide between First-Class citizens and the Second-Class labor force is deeply entrenched, with societal mobility being rare.
The Code of Divine Rights, the sacred text of the Moriander faith, holds sway over everyday life, with clerics and priests maintaining moral order throughout the city.
Most people live in the crowded filthy slums with many disgruntled about their station in life. Recently they have started forming labor unions to force a say in the government of the city and the Empire. Protests happen often and are sometimes violently beaten down by the constables of the Mori Police Force.
Economy
The harbors of Mori are among the busiest in the world, with goods flowing in from every corner of the Empire. Its factories churn out weapons, machinery, and refined materials, making it the economic engine of the continent. The Merchant Companies wield immense power, controlling trade routes and guild networks that extend far beyond the city's walls and even beyond the borders of the Empire.
Military
The Imperial Garrison of Mori is the largest in the Empire, with elite troops, Technologist battalions, and war machines stationed in Military Distric south of the city. Even the newer Aeronaut corps with their flying machines and the Mechanus corps in their huge walking robots have a presence in the city.
The harbor has a permanent fleet of the Imperial Navy patrolling it shores and protecting its shores from the threat of pirates, raiders and warships from the Kingdom of Therassia.
