Caspian Hawke
Caspian Hawke, or Cas as he is also called, is the son of one of the Great Houses in the city of Janmark (the house of Hawke). However, his father was born in a branch house, and as a result his father, mother, and him were treated as second class citizens within the family. Despite this disposition towards his father, he still managed to maintain a healthy relationship with the main branch, and as a result Cas was able to benefit from the perks of being from one of the four great houses.
At the age of 7 Cas was kidnapped by pirates (The Emerald Corsairs) and held him ransom for a large sum of money. However, to his surprise, his family never agreed to pay, nor did they even decide to look for him, despite his abduction being reported to the authorities. The pirates, not knowing what to do with Caspian, had reluctantly decided to take them in and teach them their ways. Caspian, angry with his family, decided to embrace the life of freedom that being a pirate entailed. Under the pirate’s “tutelage” Caspian learned about their customs/traditions, how to man and operate a ship, as well as their unique brand of sword fighting.
He caught on rather quickly and within two years he was able to join the Corsairs on their raids. On one particular raid aboard a merchant vessel, during the aftermath Caspian was allowed his first take, and a particular sword caught his eye. The sword itself has a particular amethyst gemstone embedded within the sword’s guard. Unbeknownst to Caspian, the sword was actually sentient. Shocked, the next time the Corsairs made port, he had it appraised a local magic shop. The shopkeeper informed Caspian that it was indeed a magical sword called NightPiercer and had potential for great power. Satisfied, Caspian returned to the ship and decided to communicate with his sword who introduced himself as Nigel. He had informed Cas that he was a being of immense power, and if Cas had pledged to serve him, he would grant him said power. Being a naive teenager, Cas had taken the sword up on its offer and in return Cas was bestowed with magical powers beyond his comprehension.
At the age of 17, The Sea Dogs, the Union’s fleet, had staged raids against Corsair strongholds and ships forcing them to disperse. One of the fleet’s captains had recognized Caspian and his station and had taken him back to his family in Janmark. Much to his surprise, the family had welcomed Cas back with open arms, even holding a feast in honor of his return. Following his years of abduction, Caspian’s family forced him back to finish his schooling. During this period of re-acclimation back into high society, Cas just couldn’t fully adjust, unable to lose some of the roguish tendencies/mannerisms of the Corsairs. In an effort to get him to focus they had assigned his older cousin, Cairo (from the family’s main branch as well as the family’s golden child) to mentor him. Caspian didn’t mind because he liked Cairo, who was always nice to him despite not being from the main branch. Cairo viewed his younger cousin as a breath of fresh air in a rather stuck-up rigid environment full of false niceties and political machinations. Together they continued to hone their swordsmanship, until Cairo decided to take up the spear. 2 years later, Cairo graduated from the academy and ultimately joined the Union's military as an officer.
Throughout his time at the academy, to his surprise, Caspian had shown an interest in politics, specifically political activism. He had learned that the political ideologies of the leaders in the continent had varied deeply leading to differences in their laws. Furthermore, the more he learned, the more his eyes were opened to the injustices people faced. This made him reflect on his experience with Corsairs realizing that he had bore witness to injustices in different ports they stopped at. Upon his graduation the Brisbanium was enacted, and he found out people were forced into refugee camps to “protect” the people of Central Iberrios from becoming casualties should a war break out. On a few occasions Caspian had ventured into Republic lands to do research trying to locate these camps. During his time of research, he found out that these camps were kept a secret society and was arrested for even inquiring about them. By an act of serendipity he met a mysterious dark-haired woman named Sophira Lanstedt, who had saved him from being arrested again. She had mentioned that if he was thinking about really making a difference, he would have to think bigger and eventually notified Cas that she was an acquaintance of his cousin Cairo. It turns out she was looking for him, stating that as a Captain who trained and led the newly formed Peche Militia he had gone missing during a recent skirmish with Federation forces, ultimately asking him to join the Amethyst Isle as a member of her spy network, the Sparrows.
