Emerald Horizon

The Emerald Horizon is a scouting-class warship, a vessel designed with precision for speed, maneuverability, and sharp-eyed reconnaissance across open seas and treacherous coasts alike. Though it lacks the brute strength of a full war galleon, it compensates with nimble construction, advanced rigging, and sleek hull design, allowing it to outrun, outmaneuver, or outsmart most threats it encounters.   Design & Construction: • Crafted from weather-hardened sycamore and ironwood, the ship’s hull has been painted in deep green with silver trim, giving it a subtle shimmer on the water and blending it into the horizon from afar. • Its slim keel and shallow draft allow it to sail in waters larger vessels can’t, making it ideal for scouting river mouths, navigating reefs, or slipping through blockades. • Three triangular lateen sails catch wind with ease and allow tight directional control; reinforced with spellthread rigging to reduce wear and enhance performance during magical storms.   Function & Equipment: • Designed for long-range patrol and reconnaissance, the Emerald Horizon is equipped with: o A collapsible crow's nest periscope enchanted with far-seeing magic for long-distance scouting. o A signal lantern array for coded visual communication during stealth missions. o Compact storage holds designed more for speed than cargo, with space for rations, charts, and smuggled goods, if needed.   Armament: Though not intended for heavy combat, the ship is armed appropriately for its class: • Two forward-facing swivel ballistae mounted on the prow for fast-strike engagements. • A rotating rear-mounted dart cannon for fending off pursuers or sea creatures. • Each weapon can be fitted with specialized bolts—barbed, grappling, or alchemical (such as smoke or incendiary) depending on the crew’s loadout. • A small armory below-deck holds crossbows, short swords, and light armor for boarding actions or ship-to-ship missions.
